Went to the dealer yesterday who had a few trucks that I was interested in. I test drove a couple and settled on one. I asked for $12K off MSRP, but they offered $11K. I asked for $19K on my trade, but they offered $18K. They also tried to nickel and dime me in with some government fees of $1060 on top of the tax and registration and some other fees of $299. I know California charges weight fees, but this seemed too high.

Can anyone chime in with some approximations on weight and smog fees?

I'm out of town but I think my registration fees were at least $800.

Move to TX where your HD will fit right in. Leave your Prius's in CA though.

My 1500 was something like $63, but I havent had to register my HD yet (except when I bought it, but it was rolled into everything else).

This is my 2015 5.7 1500 Tradsman. I’m currently trying to get it regestered in FL my home of record or NJ where I’m currently stationed. CA is just crazy on the fees!

Sounds like you are active duty as I am.

CA will waive part of the overall fee for non residents. I can't remember if it is the registration or license fee....think it is the same one you used to be able to claim as a tax when you itemized your federal return.

I could have gone a step further and registered mine as non commercial (RV) and gotten rid of the weight fees. I'm moving out of state by October, so wasn't worth the hassle on that part for me. But I did get one of the other fees waived as being a non resident.

CA will wave the fee for Active Duty non residents but only when that person is stationed in CA. I am now stationed in NJ with both my vehicles still registered in CA where I bought them.

I’m going to the NJ DMV Monday to see what it takes and how much it will be.

Thanks for all the answers...

The dealer has readjusted the price to about $850, which sounds about right.
