Can it be installed later on and have the functionality through the screen like the trucks that come with it?

The part is easy to install, but a dealer must to a software update and add a sales code to the truck using their scan tool computer thingy. If you are adding to a brand new truck, have the dealer do all the work to avoid any warranty issues in the future. The dash has to be taken apart to add the switch, but all the wiring should be in place. Let us know how it goes.

Has anyone added a brake controller after the fact yet on a 19? I spoke with my dealer yesterday and they said that the part isn’t available yet. Just curious if someone has a part number. I wasn’t able to find one on Mopar’s site.

Spoke with the parts department at my dealership yesterday and he said they still have not been released and seemed amazed by this. He said he would sell a ton of them as soon as he has them. He said the best time to check back are on the 15th and the 30th. Just curious if anyone else has been able to secure one yet?

I've been asking around different dealerships and finally yesterday I was told they are in stock and they showed me the installation procedure, 21 pages, really gotta dig deep into the dash, about 3.5 hr, not cheap.

I've been looking for a truck for a few months now being particular about what I spend that much money on, I want the controller but not the mile wide mirrors so tow package trucks are out. Being completely sure about getting an OEM brake controller after the fact is still something I'm leary about.

You can add the brake controller without the tow mirrors through the build tool. I have also seen trucks preconfigured with the trailer brake and without the tow package as well as with the tow package but they have like a $200 credit for tow mirror delete.

Anyone get one installed yet? Curious how much they will charge for a $295 option.

It is kinda pricey to add one after the fact. a nice Tekonsha probably runs 99$ and many just plug right into the ODB plug

My 2019 Bighorn had every option I wanted, but the trailer brake controller. So I talked the dealer into throwing it in.

Here's the service invoice, including part number, part and labor cost.

Nice. Thanks for posting. Not as bad as I was expecting. I thought someone on here mentioned a lot more.

Oops - wrong GEN. This can be deleted. My rant is irrelevant here.

Does anyone know if the factory trailer brake is a "time delay" or "proportional"? No one at the dealership could answer my question and searching Google drew a blank.

I believe it is a combination of of speed and braking force proportional. It utilizes a lot more than just a accelerometer like proportional and it's definitely not a time delay.
It also incorporates electronic trailer sway control that works with the truck's ABS/VSC.

I also didn’t want the tow mirrors but wanted factory controller. I bought it but got dealer to install for free as part of the sale of my 19 rebel.

I put an aftermarket one in but dealership charged $100 to flash computer to get it to work. It plugged into factory wiring. Worked in my 2015 also. My dash light will not go off an dealer said live with it or buy one from them. Anyone have this problem.

I just picked up a 2018 Ram 1500 Laramie and got the dealer to agree to swap my controller from my 2014 1500 Express, which I added as a dealer option. upon trying to install, they discovered the part was apparently different. but when trying to install the current part, the truck wouldn't take the programming. apparently the "new" part is backordered. it physically fits, has the same plugs, but the truck's software will not recognize the part, and it's all MOPAR. makes no sense to me, the only reason I have a truck is to tow a trailer and now I can't until at least February
