I bought a 14 ram rt 2 years ago and slowly adding things to it so I can smoke ricer cars.

This past Saturday at 131 mph while chasing a Ford Focus my driveshaft blew apart. Being completely shamed haha I decided Fck the 5.7 Hemi and am looking locally for an srt10.

My question though is this, for those of you who have driven both is the srt10 better then the ram rt ?

With the 8 speed and gears you can outpace a Viper ram quite easily. The Viper trucks were geared for quick take off and grunt with a 5 speed transmission on the quad cabs they were not built for top speeds. If I were top speed running my truck Id rather the newer truck with mods over an old truck just for top speed.

Lol, there are two Focus RS's in my area. One of them tried me on two different occasions while rushing to the on ramp to get on the highway during morning rush hour. I always manage to pull away and get into the lane in front of him to make the turn. Both times I'd say we've gotten up to 105ish? Mind you, I'm in a 2016 crew cab Sport 5.7 8 speed. The only speed mod I've added is a Carven exhaust, which really doesn't do anything but offset the weight of my trifold tonneau cover, and sounds bitchen. maybe it adds a few more HP's? One little thing I learned on my first ram (GEN 3), is to activate tow mode. This keeps you in lower gears longer to get up to speed quicker when smashing the gas pedal.

OP just have a custom driveshaft made and it will handle whatever speed you throw at it and probably save you a lot of money in the long run. Remember that the those SRT RAMs also coudn't pass a gas station and that they required premium fuel. I bet 5-6 MPG is not unreasonable if you have a lead foot..........

Srt-10’s didn’t have the 5 speed, the quad cabs have the 48re, same as the older cummins trucks, and the regular cabs had the t56 manual. The newer 8 speeds have been proving time and again they are way faster then the older trucks just because of the transmission differences. So it depends if you want the luxury of a newer ride or the nostalgia of an older quirky truck. Now if you want to go completely full blown...

I used to hang more on VTCOA (mainly scouring for parts lol), there are at least two quad cabs that were converted to 6sp manuals.

That one in the video was converted. There is a build thread on here following that truck but it’s been dead for over a year and I think some of the pictures have expired. It is super impressive, just never heard if it’s still driving around

I'm at work, I could tell there was either a pic or video but our net nanny doesn't allow vids and filters a good portion of pics lol.

Regular cab or quad cab? If it’s a quad cab and it says a 6 speed (manual, not 65rfe like the newer 6 speed automatics) then it’s either a swap or a misprint

It isn’t the 5.7s fault that Fiat can’t design a drivetrain to not blow apart. But of corse in there defense there is no reason for you to be at those speeds(tho been there in my 04 few times) The srt will prob have more fun factor, stock for stock tho I bet the rt would win.

In July 2004, a Dodge Ram SRT-10, driven by NASCAR driver Brendan Gaughan set both the Guinness World Record and Sports Car Club of America's record for the world's fastest production truck with an average speed of 154.587 mph

Which got eclipsed by a Holden Ute because they allowed what was basically an El Camino with an LS engine to run as a truck and not the car it actually is.

I know this is older but for what it's worth I pulled a quad cab SRT to the 106 limiter and he got the jump.i have a deleted muffler and he had some type of exhaust not sure as to what though.

I have a 04 SRT-10 which is the 6 speed Tremec. All 04’s were regular cab Tremecs. In 05-06 they made the quad cab which could only be had in an automatic, which is the same transmission as the diesel 2500 counter parts. However, they had different valving and tuning to adjust for the different engine operating characteristics. I love the SRT, I’ve had it for years and just can’t seem to part with it. I’ve never driven the R/T but am confident from seeing various 1/4 mile times that it would pull the stock SRT. Like many have said though you’re talking about a 15 year old truck vs. a 1 to 4ish year old. The SRT is a torque monster with gobs of low end, it will shred the 305’s without even trying. The fuel economy is terrible I get around 10mpg with heavy driving but mine is a weekend warrior now and she is garage kept.
