Tons of good info here, about to get started but have a couple questions.

I saw a few posts mentioning getting a PIN from the dealer. What is this for?

Has anyone gotten a cheaper OBD interface to work? I don't need anything fancy for $80 if I could just get a cheap one that will work the same.

This will work for changing tire size? For example if I go up one tire size and speedometer isn't calibrated anymore.

Thanks!

PIN is needed for reset/replacement of the RF Hub when programming pressures, TPMS changes, fob programming and so on. Changes of settings inside the BCM for mirrors, seats, lights, cameras... doesn’t require it.

Skim through the thread while you wait for your equipment to come in and check out the link in my sig for known working and issues/info.

Edit: Can’t see your truck info but you may also require DeereGuy’s harness if your truck is an 18’.

FYI:

For the SGW Bypass I used the Zauto Bypass (Not the Double Bypass). It simply takes the to connectors from the SGW and you plug them into the bypass. Viola! Done.

I was also able to install the iDataLink as a 2017, so no hardwiring to get around the SGW.

The SGW on the 2018 RAM is located directly below the Radio/Uconnect head unit.

Was searching for more information on the PIN code and came across this bullet:

The 2015 Chrysler 200, along with other Fiat-based models like the Jeep Renegade, Jeep Cherokee, and Ram Promaster, are all equipped with a rolling PIN Code. Unlike previous models with a single fixed code, the rolling code is only valid for 72 hours before it expires and changes.

Does anyone know if the PIN code for RAM Trucks is a rolling code? Hope not!

There are 2 PIN codes for your truck. The pin code you want is only 4 digits and its not a rolling code. The other PIN code is 5 digits (one being a letter) and it is a rolling code. You do not want the rolling one.

Be prepared to maybe running into push back by service depts., many will not give you the code. They treat it as being owned by FCA. Usually have better luck at the parts counter in getting your PIN.

That stinks. I just went into a dealer (not where I bought it) and said I wanted the PIN in case I ever need to get a new key programmed. They verified I was the owner on the truck and gave it to me.

I have emailed the salesman that sold me the truck. Going to see if he is willing to get it for me. He should be motivated to sell another in the future.

Tell them that if they won’t give it to you, you will never come back there again to buy a vehicle or service or parts or anything. You paid a lot of money for the truck and that means you own the PIN as well. I don’t know where you are located, but my dealer will do it as long as you can show you are the owner. Landers McClarty in Huntsville Alabama.

I'm in Ontario Canada. That is exactly my thought. You want to earn my business, give me the code. ;)

Definitely post up the screenshot if he gives it to you. Thanks!

I found this in a search: https://w06.dealerconnect.chrysler.com/parts/keycode/policypdf/en_US/Key_Code_Policy_en_US.pdf

SEE FOURTH BULLET POINT DOWN. This is straight off FCA DealerConnect

Also pasted below:

Access to vehicle key codes is a necessity for dealers to service their customers and repair vehicles. However it is important to understand that a key code is sensitive information that dealers must protect. The dealership assumes full responsibility for
key code information and agrees to use key code information received from FCA US in a lawful manner and consistent with this Dealer Policy Manual as follows:

Dealers must limit the number of employees with access to the key code application to only those employees having a business need for the information such as service technicians, parts advisors, managers of these departments, and dealer
management. It is the responsibility of the dealer to monitor and update this access as needed.

Key codes must only be used by the dealership for the purpose of servicing vehicles and customers. Key codes must not
be provided to outside entities, including but not limited to locksmiths or repossession companies unless required by court order.
(Please note FCA US allows qualified third parties access to key code information
via Tech Authority).

For all Service Repair Authorization Pin requests, the customer’s information and technician’s name and/or identification number must be documented on the Repair Order.

For all non-Service Repair Authorization Pin requests, each dealership must verify the vehicle ownership by personally reviewing:
The vehicle owner’s government issued picture ID (Driver’s License)
The vehicle's registration or other proof of ownership. Please
note that vehicle registration should have normal markings from the State or Province
that issued the registration.

FCA US
reserves the right to limit and audit dealer requests for key codes.
Violations and non-compliance may result in the loss of key code access.

I am going to print this out and try again! I don't understand why they won't give it to me. If I mess something up, I will just have to bring the truck to them to fix it anyways.

What would a non-repair use for the code be?

"I want to program a new FOBIK that I bought" and I need my PIN"
PIN #: 4-digit code (all numbers) that is used to program the key (fobik) to the truck. This is the one I want and need

I used a BAFX elm327 Bluetooth obd interface and it works fine but there are modules you went be able to connect to unless you get adapter cables. Talks about that on alfaodb website.

The real deal MX adapter looks like it can "adapt" it's pin out for those modules without any adapters. I think that's part of why it's expensive.

Just for some perspective on cost... There are several of us who bought AutoEnginuity (AE Tool) PC Based OBD Software/Proprietary USB Dongle with their E04 Chrysler Pack for about $550 when we were first trying to set features in the trucks. See this thread by 00R/T: Enabling factory option codes without the dealer
- The AE couldn't access as many modules
- Would corrupt the truck BCM if certain changes were attempted requiring a dealer visit to reset
- Little support from AE about the issues we saw with it.

At $130 for the AlfaOBD setup with OBDLink MX BT, its a bargain with few if any issues
