Is there a "tow/haul" button on the 2019 1500's? Or does the truck go into it once a trailer is detected?

You have to turn it on. It also can help even when your not towing... if your in the mountains and it’s constantly shifting from 8-7-6-7-8... hen turn it on and it’ll maintain a better shifting practice and provide a more comfortable ride and performance. When in a heavy head wind it can help there also

There's a button for it. The truck did not auto detect my boat trailer (with surge brakes).

Is it necessary to get the 3.92 diff if I will be towing a 5K lbs (dry) TT across country with a 2019 Ram 5.7? The salesmen I talk with don't seem to be well versed in towing and the 8K lbs towing capacity with the 3.21s would seem to be okay "by the book".

my 28' travel trailer is around 5000# dry and I just traded a 2017 sierra mainly to get the 5.7 hemi and the 3.92 gears. my son has a similar trailer and 2017 ram with same motor and gears and his pulls that trailer great. I can tell you that my sierra 4x4 CCSB only had the 5.3 and 3.42's and always struggled to pull the trailer. by the time you load up and go anywhere that trailer will be more like 6000# and you will probably have a bed full of gear. if you tow very often I think you will be glad you got the 3.92 rear end. IMHO

I used to pull with a 5.7 hemi with 3.55 gears with a 6,000 lb camper and pulled very easily

good to hear. I weighed mine today and at 5960# with me in it, there doesnt seem to be much payload capacity left but if I pack light, it should pull fine

towed my app. 6000# trailer this week with my new ram 1500. pulled fine but has a little shimmy. motor a lot louder than my 2017 5.3 sierra but gets up to speed quickly. trailer brakes set at 5.0 plenty of stopping power. tranny at 186* but oil temp. 230* on a 90* day mostly flat road. only 9 mpg. was used to 10-11 on my sierra but maybe it will get better after break-in more. will probably swap out to the hellwig sway bar but all else good.

added the hellwig sway bar and that eliminated a lot of the shimmy that I was getting when towing. using the center holes for now

i pull an approx 5000# dry and that turns into a 7000# when fully loaded ... i have the 3.92 and it does a great job even in our eastern mtns ... tow haul locks out my 8th gear and adds a sort of speed limiter on down hills, works great, lots of power but you need to watch your gvw .. the adds on 12,700# towing are misleading many

People seemed to think that Tow/Haul locks out 8th on the Gen4 truck too which it doesn't. Your rpms are not far enough into the torque band for the load to warrant 8th gear.
The "speed limiter" is actually the engine braking the load. The transmission stays locked up and the vacuum created from the intake butterfly valve being closed slows the engine down(gasser).

well what i mean with the speed limiter is i have "Hill Asst" and my transmission, when i tow haul, will actually downshift on a steep hill to a lower gear to keep me at the desired speed, say 40 mph, and i have tried running empty in tow haul, still no 8th gear

I have been in the mountains of new mexico all week and the truck has worked great. engine braking with tow/haul on nice to have. truck starts right up in below 0 temps. wildpeak tires working well on snow covered and iced over roads so far. getting 16.5 per truck computer.

drove home to DFW area yesterday from Taos. am liking the truck on the highway. rides great. heated seats and steering wheel great. handles better than any truck I have had on twisty roads. mileage still not good tho. started out in Taos at 16.5 got up to 19 for over an hour than slowly fell to 15.6 by the time I got home 648 miles later. only stopped once for gas near home so nearly all trip on same gas...hard to figure but everything else about truck is good.

Towed my 3800lbs TT with no problem with the standard 3.22 gears. When I plug in the 7pin connector the little trailer light comes on the display. Also I noticed the it holds the gear alittle longer than regular driving. I would agree with the rear Hemmingway sway bar.

kinda cool that when I connect my trailer the proximity alarms adjust for the trailer and warn me of clearance issues when passing or turning. there is an indicator on the passenger side mirror that lets me know when my entire rig has passed a vehicle in the lane to the right of me so I can begin to move over.

Used mine saterday with 16ft cargo trailer, loaded with hay.

In tow, it never used 8th, and has plenty of hp.

Air suspension keeps it level. Didn't have this on the 13 ram, but very happy so far.

Just returned from 600+ mile round trip to the hills of North Carolina and Virginia. 2019 Laramie 5.7 with 3.92s towing 6000lbs 22' TT. No problems at all except the 11 mpg which I probably shouldn't complain about at all. Encountered severe wind warnings while in NC with some estimated 40+ mph gust that had little effect on us. I have a Blue Ox Sway Pro hitch that seemed to work flawlessly. I did purchase and installed a Roadmaster Quiet Hitch anti-rattle clamp that seems to have minimized the porpoising I experienced when I first purchased our trailer. The air ride leveling system and tow/haul mode make it so the only reason you know the trailer is back there is because you can't accelerate as fast and the highway gas mileage goes from 19 to 11 mpg.
I also experienced the same lack of knowledge about trucks from the seven different RAM dealers I dealt with. They just didn't seem to understand the difference between 3.21 and 3.92 differential gears and why I was so adamant about wanting the 3.92s. Even when I showed them in the RAM specification manuals that the 3.92s give you about a ton of more towing capacity and I intend to go through major mountain ranges when I camp, it didn't seem to click. Ended up buying my truck sight unseen from a dealer 2 states away that had it listed on their website.
