I'd say get one of the Diablosport programmers.

There are some used I2's available out on the web, the current model is the I3, the Trinity has been updated or you could select the new Predator.

My suggestion is, whichever model you choose, get one that will accommodate custom tunes.

In this direction, however have to ask: are you going any further into the engine (cam, heads, blower, etc)? If so, get a Diablo. If you aren't, get a Superchips, the tunes are good and the transmission tuning better.

Do you need the real time display of the Trinity?

I have a CTD so I use an Edge CTS II programmer with the mounted display and I like having it so I can monitor EGT, trans temp, coolant temp, fuel pressure, etc...

In your case, I still say the Diablosport units are the best for basic bolt ons and for updating to a custom tune if and when you start building an engine.

Yeah, if you intend to do it later, you may as well; you just don't get the trans tuning unless you get a short term custom tune.

The Diablo doesn't do trans tuning? I thought it was able to change shift points and remove rev limiters etc. I also saw in a few places that it can change shift line pressure is that not true? I would like the motoring feature I do push my truck pretty hard and would love to be able to see all my temps

Changing shift points, rev limits and line pressure is not the same thing as tuning the transmission lol. Changing your shift points like that is for WOT, as well as rev limits. Tuning the transmission literally changes the shift schedule and pattern of the transmission. Superchips has this as an extra cost option, for Diablo has to be a CMR tune.

Adjusting shift points , torque management. A trans tune really makes these trucks feel totally different, an I’ve just used superchips trans stuff

Well I think i'm just as confused as Max1329. Im also new to the whole programming tuning era. And I don't want to open a new thread.
I have just started researching the tuners, with the different ones currently out there,
So which would be the best investment?
Myself, I currently just have an all stock 2008 Ram 2500, 4x4, 5.7L. Just an everyday around town driver, but I want to get better fuel economy, and some better performance over the factory limitations/restrictions.
Which tuner is a better investment over another? A few companies have different newer upgraded versions.
Some tuners do not have some functions over others. I understand you get what you pay for.
So can someone break it down a bit more for some of us less-knowledged in this area?
Which would be the better investment, starting out from stock, and being able to upgrade as we can with aftermarket performance mods/upgrades?
Thanks

If you don't intend to do any engine work, get the Superchips for your truck. This will be available with trans tuning which by itself is worth it. If you intend to cam it, better heads, etc then Diablo it is, as this will allow custom tuning.
