Near as I can tell, some are and some aren't. Might be best to check your local dealers and see if they have a certified diesel tech. If not stay away.

Hit and miss on 14's, pretty decent after that. I had a 14 and loved it, but stepped up to a 2500

I wanted one and decided it was worth trying. Bought a 2016 and everything's been great. From what I read online I got real worried. But another guy I work with bought one and loved it. So I went for it and couldn't be happier. Just remember most satisfied customers don't have a reason to go to a forum and post. Some people do have reasons and share them. But typically they're a vocal minority.

Any diesel engine is pretty much useless without a turbo nowadays. When you get rid of the throttle butterfly valve, you have a lot less problems with using turbos...lol

There have been very few reported issues with the Garrette 2056 turbo used on these engines.

I saw almost no turbo issues on the forums with the EcoDiesel. Main problems we're coolant bypass valves that mixed coolant and oil, and emissions.

Many turbos on the 5.9 Cummins last the life of the engine. 300000 miles plus.

Alexander, just my opinion. The 3.0 diesel doesn't make sense any more. The entry price for the diesel is too high. And the fuel is expensive also. The engine, in order to comply with the epa has become very complicated as did the exhaust. Unless you are towing and need the torque, you might be better off with the Pentastar. My final thought is, there is a reason you can't get a lifetime warranty on diesels.

I'm loving mine. I have the 8 year mopar extended warranty. If it blows up after 8 years so be it. I'll get another diesel, if they still make them in 8 years and if i'm still suckin air.

Although I love my EcoDiesel, I haven’t had it long enough to say either way on reliability.

My fiancée’s grandfather has I believe it’s a 14 EcoDiesel, the truck drives great, he loves it and I don’t think he’s had any trouble with it either.

Wrong. Nobody has been paying the 4k premium for the diesel addon since the 1st year.

Diesel is about the same sometimes more sometimes less then gas here in norcal.

The 3.0l diesel if it was such a failure why did gm twins and ford put out a 3.0l diesel??????

A lot of people who dont own diesels are jealous. I pump up every 2.5 weeks vs weekly and get 6-700 miles per tank.

You can scream extra oil and fuel filters for maintenance but I make that all back from not stopping for gas weekly.

Do some market research, the ecod has been a troublesome venture for FCA but it has been a success nonetheless where FCA 2x main rivals took 4 years to put out the same truck

You should google this question, lots of them blowing up.

You could also do the same with Hemi, and Pentastar, and Cummins and... and...

I’m just saying that if you go looking for horror stories, you’re going to find horror stories.

Based on the numbers on the road, I don't think they're any less reliable than any other light truck turbo diesel.

In regards to the fuel cost, where I'm from, diesel fuel is about $0.25/gal more than 87oct gasoline and has been for years.

Just know the 14-16 had the dreaded Bosch cp4 pump. Google Bosch cp4. Junk

Nope, FCA released a statement (or was found through email transcripts) right when the lawsuit started, they had motor failures of 2-300 a week, which equals out to 2-3%

That is still quite low, but since this motor was talked about extensively the normal failure rate for motors in mass production are .2-.3% so yes this is a abnormal issue.

As I said, just my opinion. Btw, I loved the two Cummins I owned. I don't hate diesel, I hate what the tree huggers have done to them. Btw, in Jersey, diesel fuel is significantly more expensive than gasoline.
