Recently purchased a 2015 1500 sport. I tested all the drive options when I purchased the vehicle, but apparently didn't test it enough.

This week I put it in 4 high due to some poor weather. I now notice that when I roll to a stop, and as soon as the speedometer hits zero there is a pretty pronounced clunk and jarring coming from under the vehicle. It feels as though something is slipping or disengaging (not sure if that is what's happening or not) . If I stop quickly the clunk does not occur, and it also does not occur in 2w or 4wd auto. I have not yet tried it in 4 low. There is no issue with acceleration, only with slow braking. Any ideas as to what the problem could be or recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks!

I've heard of this over the years on many different vehicles that the driveshaft front splined yoke that mates the the trans output shaft binds up. The fix was to remove the shaft & apply some teflon impregnated grease to the splines. Of course the 1st thing you waht to do is check the rear trans mount and make sure its not bad.

It's only in 4wd high that it happens. We've been getting a bit of snow, and was also out back behind the house when I had it in 4 high. Then basically forgot to switch out of it while doing a little bit of stop and go driving when I noticed it. It does not occur in 4 auto... I'll keep it there. Thanks for the input... I'm far from a mechanic, so any lead as to if it is actually a problem I should be concerned with is appreciated.

Are you using 4WD high, or 4WD Auto?

You probably should not use 4WD high as you will get what's called 4WD Transmission Wind Up.

If your truck as Auto, use it.

See here....

There is no problem at all turning. It's only when coming to a stop... Thanks again!

No problem. Certainly sounds like wind up to me. 4WD High should only be used on loose ground where the wheels can spin at different speeds.

Cheers
John.

I am also having the exact issue on my 2018 Big Horn. I almost never use 4 wheel auto or lock, and the only time I ever use 4 wheel lock is in deep snow or mud off road. I've taken it to the dealership twice. First time they claimed to have fixed it (of course acknowledging that there was a problem), and second time they kept my truck for SEVEN FULL DAYS and then claimed there was nothing wrong with it, which flies in the face of the fact that they had it for 7 days messing around with it. I now am at a loss of what to do. The problem still exists, it's definitely not normal, I've owned plenty of other Rams and have driven many others and tried stopping in 4 wheel lock and this only occurs on my truck. First time I took it in with this issue I was under my general warranty, and I am still under my power train warranty, yet the dealer balked at fixing this so now I have to try to deal with Ram customer service.

I've been a loyal FCA/Chrysler owner MY ENTIRE LIFE. This may be the end of it. Sucks!
