Cold weather grill seems antiquated

Anyone remember the manual lock outs that were necessary to put a truck in 4 wheel drive? You'd get your truck stuck in the mud, then get out in the mud to manually turn the lock outs on the each front wheel. Then they invented technology that didn't require that. Now it's even easier and literally a push button.

Standing out in the cold trying to wedge my grill cover between the bumper and grill was constantly reminding me of the lock outs. Does this surprise anyone else that a $60,000 truck needs a blanket clipped to the grill to keep it warm?

I miss my hubs, of course I didn't unlock them quite a bit of the time, just throw the transfer case in 2wd.
That way I could pick up 4wd at any speed.
But I can recall when the hubs where an option.

I agree. To me it does seem absolutely ridiculous in this day and age to have to put a winter cover on a truck that already has active shutters in the front which restrict the airflow to the rad when closed. Am I missing something? And for Ram to threaten to void warranty if the winter cover is not used in a cold climate? I don't remember reading that in the sales brochure!

It's a serious pain in the ass to install as well. My issue was getting those stupid inset rods between the grille and the bumper down on the bottom. I hated messing with that stupid thing so much last year, that I probably won't even mess with it this time around.

When I put mine on, to get the bottom piece in, I ended up lubing up the bumper fascia with some dish soap and water. I don't think I could have got it otherwise as it was already cold outside, so everything was stiff.

I have a question, My truck has the active grille shutters do those do the same thing as the cold weather cover, without the cover?
