I don't know crap about the subject other than this guy has been an expert for as long as i can remember. Very interesting series and learned a lot myself.

I just recently purchased a PML cover for the rear end.
For the simple reason of — Quick/Simple/Mess Free service.

Mainly when we begin towing the family RV. The service of the unit will be more frequent.

Not really concerned with (possible) Cooler Temps nor (so called) fluid dynamic function of the cover.

The PML covers have been proven over the past many years - Many times over.

I will also replace the 68RFE pan & front differential cover in the near future as well. Both with PML!
Main reason: Like I stated above to help with Fast/Simple /Mess Free Service of the unit.

I find the older I get: I really like those 4 words A lot!

Edit: I'm surprised this post hasn't been moved!

I’ll have to look into the pml. I’m on same page. Simple/fast/mess free. I use mine as well for towing.

If you change your diff fluid yourself then an aftermarket cover with a good drain location and fill port saves a lot of mess and hassle. I hate having to remove and reinstall a cover just to change fluid. If you also do some 4 wheeling then an after market diff cover is typically much stronger than the tin-like stock covers on most vehicles. If you smack into a rock then a bullet proof cover can save you from trashing your gears.

The reason for me favoring the PML covers are simple.

Reputation
Outstanding quality & Design
Most importantly - Cost for such a simple product!

I have No Dam desire or need to spend $250-$300 for a differential cover.

Edit: I am by no means attempting to endorse the PML brand!
They are just MY personal preference.

I did a quick search for PML diff covers on Amazon and they were all $250-$300. The PML web site lists them $200 for cast finish, $250 for powdercoat, and $325 for polished aluminum. Did you find them somewhere for a lot less?

CoHam: $195 for the cast is as low as I have found!

At one point I was sold on the G2 covers.
But as more & more owners began buying them the prices practically doubled over night! These companies I will totally avoid.

My understanding is PML does little to no wholesale pricing and they sell most of their covers direct. That leaves little room for 2nd party vendors to stock and most just drop ship from PML.

Syn & Hootbro,
Thanks for the info gents. The first time I need to change my diff fluid I’ll be looking for a good cover. I want quick, clean, easy every time after that. I’ve always used ARB and LubeLockers on my Jeeps, but they are real proud of those ($$) and I don’t believe they make them for the latest Ram anyway.
I hope you guys have a great weekend (it’s snowing here, crap)

Just installed a PML rear cover yesterday.
took 2 hours & 4 SOL beers!

Service every 35K miles will be fast/easy/mess free!

Final cost for the PML - $203
Lube Locker gasket was $22

The PML pan for her 68RFE will be a much more costly adventure - but we'll worth the $$$ / Time /Effort.

Then the Front Differential will get its own PML.

I was shocked to see how filthy the gear set & inside cover was - only after 6920 miles. 2 cans of CRC Brake Kleen made the gear set look like new.

^^^ Now - That is intelligent Thinking right there!

Gale Banks would be so Proud!

I'll make sure to report back after the 200K mile mark is reached with horrid news - Due to my 11.5" AAM is still performing flawlessly with the PML - Instead of the $400 Banks Cover!

The standard cover will do the job, unless you have increased the output of the motor or being real mean to your truck.

If lifted, I like the look of an aftermarket one.

Just a question or two, maybe three! What is wrong with protecting the gears with OEM covers and regular oil changes? How much better oil flow do you get with aftermarket covers? Was it worth the extra expense for the after market covers? If so, please let me know! Gimmicks do absolutely nothing but normally drains $$ from account.
