Well Detroit and then New England winters have not been good to my Ram. Had always kept her clean, washed underneath...
Finally the rust won. Had to make the decision sell or fix.
The price of a new Ram is not something I want right now.
So fix it is!
(I realize I’d have been better off with a used one at this point but may still be dealing w rust)

I’ll post some pictures soon,
Bed came off, descaled frame, new steel frame caps welded on damaged sections, primed with anti corrosion paint, coated with U-pol raptor.
Also lots of mechanicals that had been neglected..

The parking brake had plagued me for years and finally got fixed. Had to pull apart the rear to do it!
New brakes and rotors also..

Will do!
Had brake failure at one point, ate through lines.
The new brine pretreat is like acid..
Sticks like tooth paste, water activated.

Nightmare

The truck has 150,000 miles but runs well, has had routine oil changes. Feels like lots of life in her (now).

I have great luck with oil spraying to keep everything looking great. Got my 2003 2 years ago and the previous owner must not of drove it much in winter cause it was really clean underneath, I cleaned up the surface rust and primed and painted with tremclad (canadian rustoleum) And oil sprayed underneath with fluid film. That stuff is amazing, did the rockers and everything too and sprayed up the sidewalls of the box too, and the hood and bumper etc. This year I mixed the fluid film with another rust spray that was a bit thinner to help with spraying and it's still sticking really good.

Might want to think about oil spraying it, I'm really happy with it myself. Sucks to have to do all this just to keep our trucks alive because we live in the salt lol.

Looks great brownie!

How's the body on the truck compared to the frame?

That 2006-07 range is where most daily drivers are getting about completely shot where I'm from. Lovely Buffalo NY area.

Case in point- My brother's 2007 Ford F150 XLT is starting to rot out pretty bad. It's only got 130K miles on it.

Body was in pretty good shape, I have the usual wheel well issues the Rams are famous for. It was literally the turning point for me. Save or replace the truck.

My frame is starting to show some rust. Should I try to remove by sanding the rust off as much as I can before painting over? Or just sand some and paint?

I cleaned and wire brushed mine as clean as I could get it. But I just used rustoleum primer and paint, surprisingly it's held up to 2 winters in Ontario so far. I find the oil spray makes the biggest difference to keeping vehicles rust free. It's sad seeing all the 3rd gens age and rot away. I've always loved them since I was little, wish I could afford to buy a few southern ones and store them away lol.

I love my 2nd gen, so I´m trying to keep it as good in condition as I can. Being in Wisconsin its hard to keep anything rust free for long lucky mine came from Arizona 10 years ago and was stored for a while so there is only little surface rust. What is the oil spray? would you suggest the spray or paint?

Hi there, Well I painted mine first. That was early spring drove it all summer and then sprayed the whole underside and inside frame tubes and rockers with a product called fluid film. Look it up, Very good product for keeping metal protected from rust. It creeps really well into small crevices and doesn't really drip. There are other under spray coatings that work good too but fluid film is worth the extra$$
