You know the lug nuts are going to be different size than anything you would normally carry---I think it must be a rule or something----LOL
Jay

I have enough different sizes that I’m sure I’ll own the right ones, now whether they are in the box with the rest that’s a different story. It’ll probably be the only one missing as usual lol

I don’t think Uhaul have spare tires. I believe that in a flat or blowout problem your supposed to call the service line and they send a repair truck to change the tire.

What is this light you speak of? I’m thinking it’s something simple and something I should know but it’s alluding me.

It's probably good you don't know about it. I believe it happens when you overload your truck. My buddy's truck as the auto air suspension so maybe it's tied to that. If you don't have that you may not have the light. I actually never saw it. We were just all out camping and he asked if any of us knew what the light with "an icon with an arrow pointing at his bed" meant. It was then I started to really look at his setup and realized how overloaded he was. I'm thinking he got out the manual and it said it was overloading something (no surprise if you could see his setup).

That makes sense actually as I’m not sure what in the suspension or truck would let me know as it sits now.

I hauled a one bedroom apartment full of stuff with one from Fredericksburg, Texas to Houston, and didn't hardly feel it behind me. I used my stock non towing mirrors, but added a spot mirror to the driver's side to help.

Like the others have said, load more to the front to avoid sway. Also, the surge brakes worked quite well on the trailer I rented.

Finally, my truck is a Hemi crew cab 2wd, with the 3.21 gear set and an 8 speed.

Nice thing about the 6X12 they have is they're tandem axle and tow decent vs their smaller ones that are single axle and tend to wander more. Just hope you don't have to back up a hill as that is where surge brakes can cause you problems

Absolutely do not pull into a weigh station...your not a commercial vehicle with a DOT#. Even if you rented a 26’ Ryder, Uhaul or whatever rental truck you do not have to cross scales unless you are engaged in commercial transport.
Nothing ****** those of us that do have cross scales than the windowlicker driving a Subaru towing the lil uhaul trailer that drives up on those scales. DOT loves to sit them there and make them feel the pain. I think they use it as an excuse to take a potty break. I actually heard DOT on the scale speaker ask the above example “Can I help you with something?”
Heres your sign....

I didn’t take that into consideration, I guess if that ends up happening the truck has enough power to deal with it eventually.

Some trailers with surge brakes will have a hole to put a pin in to disable the trailer brakes when backing up. I don't know if U-haul trailers are like that or not.

They could also use free backing style braking assemblies that don't engage in reverse.

Tow mirrors needed?
No tow mirrors needed, although it would help while backing up. I didn't have them on any of my trips. Trailers are fairly narrow. I did my share of backing up too. Biggest problem is, because they are narrow and have a short tongue, they tend to want to jack knife pretty quickly. Use small inputs when backing up

Anytime I tow ANYTHING the first thing I make sure I have is a good jack and not the one from the truck. Either a "pop bottle" or small floor jack will do fine. I've towed thousands and thousands of miles pulling trailers and boats and it's always better to be prepared for problems rather than relying on AAA or in your case U Haul to come out and solve a problem. I also carry a hand held Laser thermometer to check the temps of the hubs and tires. You can get them at Harbor Freight pretty cheap. I also carry a lot of other crap just cause I don't want to depend on someone else to solve my problems on the highway cause I wasn't prepared(but I'm old and just think that way) LOL

+1

3 Ton floor jack,
16 Ton bottle jack,
chunks of plywood,
2x4 and 4x4 blocks and
my tools ride in the bed any time I tow anything.

Sure makes it easy if you have to disconnect trailer to park (I did).

It’ll be like the time I rented/trailered a wood chipper from Home Depot. That thing was annoying to back up and to trailer it was weighted weird and had no breaks. Probally only weighed like 2000 though.

The shorter a trailer is the harder it is to back up.
