That’s not bad news brother that’s great news!!!!
I was afraid it wouldn’t be AS bright as HID :rocking:

Yeah I tend to agree. People were saying they might not be as good. Since they are equal then I'm paying for desgin, a brand new housing, and warranty in my case.

I prefer LED over HID for the instant on and supposedly longer bulb life.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news...but these new Morimoto headlights are no brighter than hids in factory projectors. And you cant turn off the ugly upper DRL.
This is an actual email from morimoto.

Yep, "about as well as" is their caveat. Not only are they confirming they are not brighter, but their use of the word "about" IMHO is their way of saying it's close but no cigar. Now I'm eager to see how close.

You’re a big supporter and confident in them but did you pre-order a set?

I really like their F150 version of these lights but don’t they also have twice as many LEDs in those housings?

They've now changed their tune, this is the first time they've compared the output to HIDs in projectors, before it was that the output wouldn't be as much as HIDs but more than the stock bulbs.

I got stock quad lights, so anything brighter and sharper and I'll be happy.

I like the drl and the design, makes it look like all of the new generation of cars and trucks. My 5 year old truck will look just like a 2019 model ... Which i think would be refreshing to me.

Am I still unsure of what I just pre ordered? Of course, we are all essentially buying a cat in the bag as there aren't any real units out there... That's why I don't need to open them when I receive them and just wait for the first review to arrive. If it's really horrible, I can always send it back for refund.

If you want to do the best retrofit there is...look at G5R or G5EX bizenon. They mske the Morimoto D2s 5.0 look like halogen projectors with yellow and green in the light output.

I just try to keep an open mind about them and I’m hopeful they work great to give 4th gen owners another alternative for headlight replacements. I’m more of a “the glass is half full” kinda person.

You are correct, the F150 version does have 4 lights but only the top two are illuminated for low beams. The Ram version is suppose to be illuminated for both lows and highs but that’s all speculation since these don’t exist in retail production form yet.

I hear you but being positive doesn’t really change reality. And we won’t know what reality is until guys get them and slap them on trucks and turn them on at night.

I just feel like you might sway guys who are on the fence into spending roughly $1,500 on headlights.....and if they care about light output it might not be the best option.

Everyone will make their call on the appearance of the lights but output is also important to some people and if you truly believed in both the looks and performance to the extent your posts show I feel like ya should’ve pre-ordered already. That whole $ where your mouth thing.

This, I also dislike the DRLs makes the headlights look to busy...

In Michigan, especially a 10 mile radius from the Warren Trucking Plant all I see are the new 19 Ram Trucks with the DRLs on, looks so sexy.

Sorry to upset you guys by keeping an open mind. I won’t post in this thread again.

I really liked this post because it caused me to look into the G5R projector which I knew nothing about. I think after looking at the HIDplanet website im still wanting the mini 5.0 projector swap based on my perceived needs of my truck.

Without a doubt a huge upgrade from stock quads. I’m sure you’ll be super satisfied with these. My main focus is primarily light output compared to projectors with HID’s.

He's obviously only speaking for himself and what his own opinion is about the lights as well as your comments. It doesn't reflect opinions of others in this thread.

To all of you others who are skeptical about these lights and are saying negative things about them even before they are released:

Tell me what other option is there available besides these lights that is not an all single unit easy to install, sealed and won't leak, comes with 5 years warranty, made by a top manufacturer such as Morimoto, doesn't require adding all sorts of ballasts and converters, doesn't require retrofit, and has nice modern looking design with bright and sharp led lights?

Not many options , eh? These new lights may be our best option so far.

Light output? Yes this area is still something we aren't certain about, and it probably won't be as bright as hid lights. So if you're looking for the brightest lights ever, then these lights may not be for you.

Let's keep this thread positive and constructive

I have the F150 ones in my wife's truck and they are pretty bright. That being said they are not as bright as HID lights but there is plenty of light for driving around at night. The biggest help is those are really focused with crisp cutoff's.

The one thing I can say is make sure you spend the time to align them. The F150 ones have been coming from the factory way out of alignment. Example is the high beams on both sides were aimed nearly at the front of the truck. Once fixed the highs are pretty bright.

I did notice that they no longer list using Osram chips like they did on the F150 ones in the beginning. I got the first batch and that is what I have. Not sure if that is good or bad for output but I liked the idea of the Osrm chips since they have a really good track record for longevity.

Good to hear an opinion from a current XB line owner to give some real world view.
As for the led's used, I would personally think Morimoto (Matt) has made a success in the light game with his knowledge now, so if they switched I would hope for a better led. I would imagine the last thing they want to deal with is warranty claims, as these lights have a decent stretch of warranty period.
Just my thoughts and hopes anyway.
