Believe me, I waste money just as much as much as some people but spinning off a perfectly good, more expensive oil filter just not raise eyebrows at the dealership just doesn’t seem to make sense to me.

Well, none, so far. So far the only times my truck has had to visit the dealer was to address a couple of software update recalls but from what I’ve read here, you’re at risk anyway of them seeing that you have what they would refer to as an incorrect filter if they happen to see it, for whatever other reason you had to take your truck there for. Don’t even have to be engine related.

They never raise the hood or put on lift for my 2014 flash recall updates.....just open door & flash thru OBD port.

After trying a few filters from the mo 899 to wix to rp to 10 others in between. The SRT filter is the quietest for this truck.

I m a big Mopar fan, I have 3, 5.7s. an 11, 15 & 16. And I had an interesting family friend who worked for Chrysler.

My family Friend's name is Forrest Petcock.

https://www.allpar.com/history/interviews/marc-rozman/3-Cell-13.html

Forrest did a bit of work in developing the original hemi back during the Early Nascar days. See above.

When I stumbled on the SRT filter from this forum and tried it since it's a Mopar item I talked to him about it and he gave it a thumbs up. I've used it since then.

My 11 has 107k. My wife drove it the first 82k then I took it over. She has a 16, that just broke 40k. It runs the big RP filter since she goes 10k OIC.

My 15 runs the SRT as well, it's a Durango RT and awd so it gets tossed around a bit and is a blast to drive.

Hope this answers your question

"The SRT Viper filter flows better than the stock Purolator filter and requires a higher differential pressure to bypass the filter at cold starts and high demand (Meaning the SRT Viper filter bypassstays closed more often and filters more oil). Both filters will work on the 5.7/6.1/6.4."

"The high flow oil pumps in our large engines (Viper is the biggest) can overpower the internal relief valve. When this valve opens it allows some of the high pressure dirty oil to bypass the filter element in order to keep the filter from being damaged. The SRT filters do indeed have a higher differential bypass valve to make sure all the oil delivered to your powerplant is clean."

"one main difference is the 5.7s don't have oil squirters that cool the underside of the pistons as the 6.1, 6.4 engines do - that requires a higher volume pump since there's an addition "bleed" on the oiling system and the anticipated harder use an SRT engine may like see..."

The SRT filters did well on my 5.7 and 6.4, but I get the RP 20-820's much cheaper which is what initially drove that decision. Then I saw the oil filter testing data and that just confirmed their use for me.

I run the RP filter on my 16. My 11 is noisy loud with an RP filter, but amazingly quiet with the SRT filter. So regardless of filtering, it's SRT for my 11.
I just do shorter oci.

How does the filter affect noise?

Guy, I'm not certain, all I know, my 11 engine taps, rattles and is fairly noisy except when the SRT filter is installed. Then no tapping, no rattle and engine is silky smooth.

The engine has never had any work other than I have an i3 91 octane tune installed.

I think it's a pressure thing, but have zero proof. Cold and warm idle are similar to other filters maybe 2 or 3 psi different running psi is 53 SRT, 51 anyone else.

I recently switched to RL 5W30, so I might achieve different results by using RL and the RP filter, I just have not tried it. I been running SRT filter for over 40 k miles. Ran RP oil before RL.

I will say my 16 has the RP big filter on it and it's smooth and does not tap or rattle. Maybe it's a mileage thing. I have not looked at it in depth.

Hope this helps

I just bought the RP 17807 for $12.79 a couple weeks ago off Amazon and I have full confidence that it would last until the OLM was at 0% twice over probably. My previous RAM lost the cam and lifters at 32K miles and the dealer didn't ask the first question about receipts, what kind of oil it had in it,etc. It also did not have a Mopar filter on it, it had a Fram Ultra on it. They just fixed it and gave it back no questions asked.

That’s nice that they just fixed it and kept their traps shut...Lol. That’s how they should be. Did they ever say what caused your cam and lifters to fail at that low of mileage?

The SRT filter ain't a bad filter and if I remember it's made by Wix. If that sucker keeps your truck quiet I would keep running it without hesitation, but I would avoid the RP oil in a Hemi at all costs. After a while it makes them get noisy and IMO it's over priced even at the dealer pricing I can get on it for what it is.

Thats good to hear that its a Wix filter at least. Hearing that kinda in a way makes me in a way not wanna sway away from the Wix XP filter I’ve been using. I dunno, I guess I’m just paranoid from all that I’ve read here since I paid a pretty penny for that MaxCare warranty. Even the dealer pats guy I said I talked to Friday kinda said that it’d probly be ok, he just really didn’t wanna suggest it because even though the Charger, 300, and Challenger use it for practically the same engine, he said the HEMI in my truck is sensitive to specific oil pressures which kinda had me thinking against it.

Talking like that is just why I start reverting back to just using the black Mopar filter and leaving it alone. At least if it fails, or causes my motor to do something later on in its years, FCA cant say it was because I had the wrong filter, at least in their minds, if what I heard is true about them being just as crooked on any warranty, looking for any possible excuse to get out of paying for a repair.

Yup .I've moved on from RP oil. Now running RL 5W30. Engine is silky smooth and very quiet with 107k and counting. MPG is consistent 18 freeway, 16 town. I'm liking the outcome.

I sure wish I had a lot more confidence to trust that stuff but for one, its not Chrysler MS approved, and its not even API certified. Not to mention the fact that its heavier weight. Which yeah, I know, there’s a lot of you that say that 5W-20 is too light of an oil for these big 400 horse hemis, and for the most part I agree, but its the thought of going up to bat against FCA should something ever happen.

It’s awfully easy to recommend it when you’re not under warranty.
