Will give this SRt filter a try on my next RL5W30 change :) Will feel weird putting on OEM garbage on my truck...lol...

If it’s a Wix filter, it’s not necessarily garbage. Just painted white and says Mopar on it.

But it does say SRT tho... that can’t be too much garbage....[emoji846]

Agree,

I'm so far out of warranty it's all on me. However will also say, 'm not trying to be a rebel, just well informed and using available resources to achieve improved outcomes.

I tried the RL 5W30 on my old out of warranty truck before every using on anything under warranty. Same thing with the RP filter. I have 2 5.7s under warranty and I've made the decision that documented oil changes with available resources within limits of any warranty claim can be reasonable and defended. Otherwise include OCS with the purchase like BMW.

I understand very well the risks. And accept them.

I'm certain you understand them as well. Everyone must make and accept the consequences of their decision. I embrace mine.

I also run RL in my Harley and my Toro lawnmower and my snow blower It may be Overkill in the Toro and snow blower but it has seen previous use before it's added to the either.

I have 82 years left, or 984,583 miles- whichever comes first, left of my warranty... it’s best I respect it or just kiss 4 grand goodbye.

From all that I’ve seen, there’s hardly anything out there that doesn’t attract to the lowest bidder.

Ouch 4 grand for MaxCare Lifetime ? Your dealer screwed you on that deal. I got mine cheap since they wanted to sell me some sort of warranty and I told them the only way it was happening was if they gave me the Lifetime for the price of their cheapest option otherwise no warranty sale for them. I also know of guys that pitted dealers against each other for the lowest price possible since you do not have to buy it when you buy the truck. Course my propensity for mod's couldn't be stopped so it's of way lesser value now, but I don't feel so bad not having paid full retail price.

Well, say whatever the hell you want but that was based off a $58,000, 2018 Limited that I bought Christmas of 2017.

I wasn’t in the mood to pit dealers against anybody. My truck came from a dealer that was over two hours away so yeah, I probably could have went to another closer dealer to deal with and have it sent to instead of the one I did end up dealing with but, I still don’t consider it a rip like it sounds like you obviously do.

I’m not heavily modding my truck either. I’m fine with mostly stock.

But it’s kinda hard for both of us to see all this from the same perspective since it appears we both have very different views of our trucks so do me a favor and think a little before saying someone got ripped off.

But you know what? Maybe I did pay a little too much for my warranty. The fact that I was able to sell my old truck for so much more over what the offered me in trade paid for a good part of my warranty.

Hey man didn't mean to hit a nerve. The sticker on my truck was like 46 and change so it's not a bare bones tradesman, but not a limited either. Shopping around on the warranties pretty much applies to all of them from any of the manufacturers. When I was looking at an $80k F350 platty the ESP, shopping around, certainly wasn't $4k nor were the available MaxCare plans for a 3500 laramie longhorm that I also looked at. I just so happened to get a deal I couldn't pass up on my 1500 configuration and honestly didn't have a need for anything more, just more of a want. Just pointing out that the dealer usually over prices the coverage and sometime I've seen over a 50% mark up on their initial offer from any of the dealers on an extended warranty.

I know it probably seems as such, but you didn’t hit a nerve. I was just simply stating that that wasn’t your call to make. Trust me, if it didn’t seem right, I would’ve asked more questions or I would’ve explored other options. There’s a lot of electronics stuff on my truck. And from that air suspension alone, being that now a year has passed, all the problems I’ve heard about with it, if I ever have a problem with it, that top tier warranty will pretty much pay for itself.

I haven’t heard of any problems yet with the 8-speed, but if that thing ever gets a hiccup, I’d hate to find out what a new one of those costs. Especially since there’s not even a maintenance schedule on it, which doesn’t make sense to me but it is what it is.

Hopefully I don’t ever have a problem with my truck, and that hopefully it stays outta the the shop for the next 9 years or so that I plan to keep it.

I don’t need all those bells and whistles that my truck came with but I sure love having them. And I like the fact that since I didn’t put them on there, that it won’t be under my dime to fix it if something goes haywire.

No the dealer didn't say anything about it one way or the other and I didn't ask.....why look a gift horse in the mouth
That’s nice that they just fixed it and kept their traps shut...Lol. That’s how they should be. Did they ever say what caused your cam and lifters to fail at that low of mileage?

No the dealer didn't say anything about it one way or the other after it was fixed and I didn't ask.....why look a gift horse in the mouth I always say. I also have the lifetime Added Care Plus but I have the required receipts to back it up hell I just use the oil in my wife's Explorer. Of course I'll slap a Mopar filter on it if the need arises. Here's another copy of the invoice:

This is why I run the Redline 5W30 even though I have the warranty I still don’t want to risk this happening again and I really don’t want anyone else digging into my motor except as a last resort.

So since this truck that the cam and lifter problems, only had 32,000 miles on it when it needed all that work, I’m assuming that bill was taken care of under the bumper to bumper, 3 year/36,000 mike warranty, yes?

How long did you keep the truck after that? That’s good that they never demanded receipts and records or nothin’ and tried to make sure you perfectly dotted all your i’s, and crossed all your t’s.

I sure hope it would be that easy in the unsightly event if something ever happened to my truck because I really don’t wanna have to do all this damn proving ******** to show that I was taking care of my damn truck. I would hope that when they find out I paid a pretty penny for my warranty that that alone would show that I’m serious about keeping my truck out of the shop and that I wouldn’t be doing a damn thing to intentionally put it in there.

But if I’m reading you right, you have lifetime warranty on your new truck right, and you still run 5w-30 Redline in it? Since you got lucky with your old truck, what do you do for records just in case? I think after all the reading I’ve done here that I’d kinda like to try this Redline, heavier-weight oil but I’m just afraid to. I don’t like doing things that could turn around and bite me in the ass, when all I would simply be doing is trying to do the best for my truck, and keep it outa the shop. That’s why I bought a top tier truck that has almost everything in it. I don’t wanna do anything to it, except what I have done, which is minor. Better under seat boom box, better floor mats, new running boards, tonneau cover, led lights, bug shield, window deflectors, mud guards, tow hooks, better lug nuts.

But I’m curious... what oil/filter were you using on that old truck that puked up a cam and lifters? How long were your oil changes? Whether or not this 20-weight oil is truly too thin for these engines or not, 32,000 miles is awful early for something like that to happen which makes me kinda think something else was going on in that motor besides weight of oil used. I know it probably doesn’t make a **** but as I’ve said here pretty often, my last truck had 70,000 miles and was 10 years old when I sold it, and the only problem it seemed to have was a little bit of that Hemi tick, that went away very shortly after it warmed up so, I don’t know if that was lifter/cam related or exhaust manifold related but, I never had one issue running 5W-20 Mobil 1 in it for the 5 years I had it.

I was using PUP 5W20/Fram Ultra filter in the old truck when this happened. I ran PYB 5W20 until 10K miles then switched to the PUP.
I did try 2 SRT filters in there somewhere in the middle. I actually had sold the truck literally a few days before this happened to my best friend because I wanted a Charger. I learned real quick that when you’ve been driving a truck for most of the 35 years that you’ve had a DL that there’s no way you can just go back to driving a car so I went back the next day(that’s a total of 400 miles plus in two days) and got the truck I have now.
I was also leery of possibly voiding the warranty But trust me once you’ve heard a Hemi run on Redline it’s like Angels singing and well worth the risk. As far as having paperwork to back up your warranty claims all you have to do is go on Amazon order 7 quarts of 5W 20 something or other that meets MS – 6395 print out the receipt and then immediately cancel the order and there you have your paperwork for the warranty. Thanks again to the RF member who initially supplied this information to me sorry I can’t remember who you are.

I’ve been running PUP and a Wix XP filter ever since I started doing my own oil changes. The first one that the dealer did, I still don’t know exactly what oil they used but from oil change #2 on out, it’s got that.

How long were your intervals?

That’s a good idea and all but as another member already said in a different discussion, if anything’s to be screwed up, I probably already did that by insisting I do my own oil changes instead of paying the dealer to do it. I haven’t even been using part numbered oil or filter, and I haven’t been buying it from the dealership so, if my dealer wanted to be absolute dickholes about it, I’d be screwed either way and on that token, I should just probably do whatever I want and jump on the bandwagon on what everybody else has been using. Cuz if you think a about it, if it all came down to having to prove I did this or I did that, how would I successfully prove I actually did what I said I did? It’s really easy to just pretty much say take my word for it, that this oil and filter that I have proof of what I bought, is what got used on my engine. Unless I video myself doing it. And yeah, I know we thankfully have the Magnuson Moss Act but that’s not a failsafe like some people like to believe it is. All that does is just make the warranty people and the dealership people prove that whatever it was that I did was the cause of the failure. That’s a big fight to wager. And yeah, I know, there is a particular member on here who went up against GM but just because he came out successful, doesn’t mean everybody will who has to battle back at crooked dealers or warranty people.

I’ll have to think about that, tho. I have materials to do one more oil change after the one I just did couple weeks ago so, I have a while.

I just hope that not following that OLM and doing my oil changes every 6000 miles is worth it and doing some good. 10,000 mile intervals just doesn’t make a lick of sense to me. I don’t care what oil I’m using.

As an update, I'm still running the SRT filter and my 11 now is at 128k miles. OCI is 7500 miles and still no concerns.
