Honestly if after a year and a half you're still mistaking the shifter for other knobs....You probably shouldn't be allowed to drive.
wrap a wide rubber band around the shift knob and your texture will be different, problem solved, world saved...…
I have grabbed the Shifter when I meant to turn down the fan and vice versa.
Not often but is does happen.
While I am normally flawlessly Perfect, in all things, not just my physical appearance and handsomeness,
I have found this one flaw to be an occasional occurrence.
Then again, it is this very slight imperfection that helps to magnify my otherwise perfect Existence.
I feel Pity, Yes, Pity, for people, such as yourself.
To be so perfect, without any flaws, is to have that very perfection go unnoticed and unappreciated.
Look how far apart those knobs are.
The only knob that's even close to the size of the shift knob is the HVAC fan speed and it's about 8 inches away from the shift knob.
How little attention are you paying to what you're doing to get these knobs confused?

Seriously....How oblivious are you people?
The other questions that I have asked before here is....Did you test drive the truck? Did it have a dial shifter when you test drove it? Did you notice that you didn't like it during the test drive?
If the answer to any of those questions is yes.....****.
I agree but as the saying goes crap happens lol.. It does take getting used to and for most we learn to live with it, And yes when not paying attention that is when mistakes happenSorry man...It's just not that big a deal if you pay attention.

Hover your mouse over your screen name, top right corner of each page.
Pop up menu should appear, inside that menu you should see a topic called
"People You ignore" - Click on that link.
On the next page, middle of the page, should see a small window
that says "Member to Ignore"
Put my user name in that box.
Doing so insures you will never see another post, from me.
It's a terrific feature that this forum offers.
If only the Zoo would come with something similar, Folks would never see another ************ Monkey again.
I never put anyone on "ignore" the ignore feature is for weak people that are so sensitive that words hurt them.
We're all adults here (or at least we should be) Adults ought to be able to have frank conversations with each other without sticking their fingers in their proverbial ears and hiding.
I have an opinion about this knob shifter hysteria that some of you seem to have.
If you disagree....I'm good with that, but it won't change my opinion.
think this whole discussion is almost a worthless venture, just pay attention to what you are doing and you won't be grabbing the wrong knob. Geeze !!!!!!!!I’m curious if a split second glance at what you’re grabbing would solve this issue.
The issue is, your initial response to me (which others also may feel the same way indirectly) was rude. You started hot, whether you intended to or not.
Your response was to tell me, that because I occasionally, in rushed situations where I need to keep my eyes on the road, have found myself turning the AC down when I intended to quickly turn the shifter to reverse, that I shouldn't be driving.
Because you never have this issue, doesn't mean others don't. You live in an area where fast shifiting, while keeping your eyes on the road is very infrequent, if ever.
I also have the issue where when I do reach for the correct dial, I sometimes shift into Park instead of Reverse, when I am attempting to do a quick uturn. This is also because I have to keep my eyes on the road. Without any feedback between Reverse and Park, it is an easy mistake to happen (Drive is easy to find because it is the end result of turning all the way clockwise).
Now this would not be an issue for me, if 1, there were less people living in Queens, Nassau and Suffolk counties AND 2 there were roads wide enough for pickup trucks to actually do a uturn. I can't even remember the last time I made a uturn without having to reverse at least once. Hell, I can't remember the last time I got into a parking spot without having to back up to get in (parking lots are very narrow).
To drive a truck as your primary vehicle in this area (NYC - Suffolk County) you have to be an artist, it requires WAY more knowledge of the length and width of your vehicle than most other places in the country.
So, to sum up what I am saying. If you do not have an issue, perhaps your response should be "I do not experience this issue" instead of coming across like you are "holier than thou." And if this is not possible, perhaps you should simply not click on threads like these, or click, read, and simply not respond at all.
Please enjoy your day.
My .02. I did test drive the truck and told the salesman I didn't like the shift knob. He said, "you will learn to like it." I responded, I will never like it but I can get used to it. Wasn't enough to keep me from buying the truck. And yes, my swing on the edge of the carport and deck ended up on top of my hood. Thought I had it in park but turned the fan knob instead. Now I make eye contact every time I shift the truck just to make sure I'm in the right gear. I do have a Altima Coupe that I drive also. I catch myself turning the volume knob trying to shift it...LIfe goes on....
Agreed about hitting park when I need reverse. Never was an issue with the column shifter.
Rather than changing the shape of the knob, if there was a way that it could be quickly slammed to reverse and hit a stop, then have to be pushed or pulled to be put into park, THAT would be a great thing!
Edit: Just ran across something I didn't know. If your battery fails and you need to move or tow the truck you'll need to use the hidden park overdrive lever. This is something dealers should be telling us about!
