Hello all
I live in north central Oklahoma near ponca city
I am wondering has anyone in this area done a gear swap on their truck
If so what shop did you use
I found a shop in Tulsa that will do the swap for $3200 he supplies parts from nitro gears
If i search 4x4 shops in Wichita it keeps bringing up atv shops lol
I am getting close to having the money to get this done
I am going from a 3.73 to 4.56
I talked to 2 shops in Tulsa
One said he didn't have the equipment
The other 3200 bucks
Anyone know of a shop in Wichita or Stillwater that they have used or trust
Either one would be a lot closer to me
This guy did say he would only have my truck 2 days
My truck is a 2017 ram 2500 4x4 with 6.4 hemi
Leveled with 35x12.5x18
Any info would be great
Thanks
Mike

Have you checked with a dealership to see what they charge?
We have a gear and axel shop here in Denver that quoted me $2400 to go to 4:56, and they would have it done in one day.

456 on a 35” tire is going to get you close to where you where stock, I too would go 4:88”s, and shop around- even if it means a “ Over night stay” like 8 hours away- just ask lots of questions-

I would recommend 4.88’s. And I would recommend not using nitro gears.

I am considering the 4.88
90% of my driving is highway unloaded 88's wouldn't be to much??
I am in the research process now i seem probably a month or two ot from pulling the trigger
Curious on why not nitro gears
Please share i have seen where several have been extremely happy with there gear set
But as said i am still in research step any info would be excellent

This is surely something i will do
The shop in Tulsa has great reviews and if i have to i will stay in Tulsa
Was just curious if anyone had experience any shops around me for reference
I agree with you i am tying to get the research before i pull the trigger on this big of job
Just not a lot of shops around me for this type of work
And thought maybe some folks on here had used one in my area

I hear ya, only a hand full of guys on here have done gear swaps on thei 3/4 tons- and they are all scattered across the world lol. On the plus side you will be super happy once it’s done.

4:88”s wouldn’t be to much, remember ur Hemi likes to sing. You will see increased MDs action which will net better fuel economy and the truck will work a lot less harder to get moving and stay moving. So far everyone who has done a gear change has seen an improvement in mileage.

I have read and read and i agree i haven't seen anyone disappointed with their gear swap
I just couldn't decide between 456 or 488 lol
I just don't want it to be too low for my driving needs
Looking at some posts the 488 might be a great fit
I just don't want it screaming at 70-75 then feel like i need to slow down lol
Of course i guess there really isn't much difference between the two
I think with either the truck is gonna be a beast compared to the 373 it has now
Thanks you

When using a gear/Tire calculator- I would see what rpm 4:10s with Factory size tires are then see what 4:88”s with 35”s is. You will likely be surprised how subtle the difference is. So with that said - currently ur truck prolly Lugs in 6th on a good day with a tail wind lol.

Yea my power wagon with the 4.10’s and stock 33’s was a ****. And just the small jump to 35’s made a noticeable difference for the worse (obviously). A lot of it I feel has to do with the trans gearing and tuning... it just sucks. Period.

When I save up the coin for gearing, its 5.13’s.

My comment about the nitro gears was from my past research coming up with them often being quite noisy.

From Michigan cant help with the shop sorry. I did 4.56s on my 2016 2500 with the 6.4. I'm running 37s and I love them. Either one you go with you will not be disappointed. I have Nittro gears in the rear and it is noisier than the stock nothing crazy but noticable. Was able to use a GM gear set in the front.

Excellent thank you
How does your truck run down the highway with the 456 i see you have 37's
I have 35's so my rpm would be a little higher
I don't plan on bigger tires i just think the 456 would make a big difference over the 373 and make things easier on the drive train
If you did it again would you choose the 456 again with the 37's
Thanks again

It lugs quite a bit i usually put it in manual in 5th to keep it from lugging and constantly down shifting
