Got my front camera up and running yesterday using m2mods harness and Alfaobd.

It took over 24 hours for it to finally show up on my screen. I also, after to years figured out that you can drag/drop/change icons on the menu bar on the 8.4.

Looking good. As a reference, what camera did you use for the front?

Edit:

I ordered M2Mods' RCA harness and Crimestoppers CAM-300 Camera & License Plate Bracket (I have a Rancho grill guard so could not mount a camera in the grill). I used AlfaOBD to get the Cargo Camera on the radio and I put the "cargo" soft key on my bottom row. When I select the soft ket it displays the front camera screen plus the rear camera icon allowing me to switch to rear camera.

I have to give many kudos to M2Mods for his quality harness and his quick responses answering my questions or helping me out.

Well, I was in the dash today working my inverter setup and I decided to put the RCA pigtail in the radio harness and test out the camera. I'm not sure if I goofed up assembling the pigtail or if I put the pins in the wrong sockets (pins 24 & 25) or something else, but I got no image and the truck went crazy (lights flashing, wipers going on thier own, EVIC display berserk, the works. Shut it all down, unplugged the camera and then spent 1/2 hour clearing trouble codes form virtually every module in the truck and worrying that I'd actually damaged something. I got them all cleared except two "Permanent" codes, both "U001 High Speed Can Bus". From what I've read, those will go away on their own with time. The Check Engine light is out and she runs, so I think it's ok.

I only built my own pigtail because M2Mods was out of parts for them when I started the front camera project last fall. Obviously that was not a wise choice. :/ I just sent them a PM to arrange to get one made for me.

@kad I'm not sure what could have happened but glad you were able to get everything corrected. Almost sounds like it shorted out to another pin. Even when I had mine in the incorrect locations mine did not do that.

Anyone have a picture of the proper pin locations? Not a diagram, I've got 1/2 dozen of those, looking for an actual picture.

I have a couple pictures of the connector but not of the pins in the connector. Memory not good enough to remember which ones to point out. Going to be removing my front seats on Thursday if the weather holds out to finish my keyless go install. Will post some then if no one beats me to it.

Maybe off topic here, but is there a way to have a cargo and a front camera, with the factory reverse camera? I’d love to have all three for mine.

I believe the only way to do that is with an add-on device like the LockPick. Despite the fact that the radio connector in our trucks has pins marked for a dedicated front camera and the BCM has options for it that can be turned on, the radio firmware does not have the ability to display the signal from it. Both the pins and BCM options are for other vehicles that use the same parts.

If you are hooking up a factory camera they require 3 wires. The signal, return, and shield.
Yes, sorry momentary lapse. The cargo cam is different

Thanks to mpgrimm2 I was able to utilize my factory cargo camera input on my radio connector in my 2017 Ram 2500 6.7 with my UAQ. All works great and looks about as factory as can be. I opted for an Amazon camera because I liked the look of it the best and the wires are not exposed on the outside of the grille. Plus it's stainless steel chrome and looks good. Positioned at the top center of the grille I get a good view from bumper corner to corner and directly in front of the bumper. I wrapped the wiring in the same appearing tape they use from the factory on the wires in the cab. Bought that off of Amazon as well. Enabled the cargo camera through Alpha OBD as well. Everything works great. The camera came with an excessive amount of wiring which is okay I zip tied it to keep it from moving around after wrapping in the tape as well. Any questions let me know. You can see my old camera to the right against the grille inserts. I didn't like mounting that camera there but the wires would have been exposed and it would not have looked as good in the center of my grille as the chrome one does. Looks more factory if you ask me. Would like the wiring under the hood to look better but I will put my OCD to the side for this one for now. 6784e617fd89c887fc5147cbfec0de94.jpgd7abf536f44008d2ef29babb0122d967.jpgf3dc476431cf297b125c5c5c3108b763.jpg6c1754a53a2fbb654194c540bd2dc905.jpg6bdaae86a09a04729f589f40ee8ffe8f.jpg
