My '12 Ram 3500 has the factory tow package. Problem is the plug at the bumper is dead but all fuses in the box are good. The lever controller on the dash shows power on the screen. I'm thinking I need to look at a factory wiring diagram to run down the tow wiring plug connections.

Hi sourdough,
I don't have a wiring diagram, but did you check to be sure the harness on the backside of the plug is fully inserted and didn't come loose?

Well I certainly don't know anything about electricity other than to respect it. That said it sounds as though there is no continuity or a short somewhere in one of the wires.

Hit reply button to quickly if you have a multimeter you should be able to check the fittings inside the receptacle and see if they're getting juice

You said fuses were good, did they have power? I believe is as follows:

Fuse 53 Left Trailer Relay/lights routed through BCM
Fuse 81 Right Trailer Relay/lights routed through BCM
Fuse 29 Trailer Park/lights routed through BCM
Fuse 27 Trailer Back up relay/lights routed through BCM
Fuse 30 is a 30 amp Direct from battery i believe. Not through a module.

Hope this helps some.

put your probe into the backside of the 7 prong plug, where the wires enter into the individual terminals. see if any of the wires have power.
then follow wires back, checking along the way, for a break or disconnect.

Follow the wires from the 7 pin to the front. The wires were possibly cut, disconnected or removed when your new bed was installed. There should be a connector at the front and rear off bed.

You dont have a short circuit, you may have an open circuit. If you had a short you would have a fuse blown.

Looked into it a little bit this morning. I remembered my factory fog lights aren't working either. Found unplugged from lights the wires are hot but as soon as I plug the lights back in nothing. Factory plug has power and ground. Checked the lights themselves and they work. Could the TIPM fog light circuit be shutting down under a load. I tried a separate LED driving set I have on front and they won't work either on the factory circuit wires.
I've had some weird gremlins in the past. Ghosting LED backup lights and running lights in the middle of the night with vehicle parked, lights off and manual trans. in neutral. I installed a diode inline on each backup light and it has stopped. Also the headlights have shut down while driving with fog lights a couple times. Was scary schit too. Now I only run the lights in the manual on mode and have added a extra set of front LED lights wired separately from factory lighting circuit.
I appreciate the replies. I'm going back out and will post again soon as to what I find with the 7 pin tow plug. Maybe it is fine, just no getting signals from the TIPM

This is excellent advice and where I'd start before you go any further. Hope you find the cause and let us know. We all learn that way

Check the back of the connector to make sure its plugged in, as well you can trace it to the front of the cab there is another larger connector that its part of, this might even be part of your fog light harness. Itll be a square plug. Rather large at that.

Check the connector at 'Totally Integrated Power Module' and '7 Way Trailer Tow Wiring".
