My Laramie hasn't even been delivered to the dealer yet but, how soon can you wax your truck for the first time? What wax/polish do you guys recommended? As usual I plan on taking good care of it. I will use the two bucket wash, keeping the bugs off, etc.

I am going to get the bed liner but didn't know the undercoat was still used. Does it matter what area you live in? I'm not in the rust belt. I'm in East Texas where we rarely see salt on the roads.

It's more of a wet thing with Dodge and you definitely get wet...

New car paint now days don't have to wait to get waxed or polished. You can wax or polish it as soon as you get it. Congratulations on your new truck!!

Thanks guys. Knowing I can wax it as soon as I get it is good. Guess I need to get it undercoated too.

I'm not a fan of undercoating. Too easy to plug drains or spray over contaminants and giving the opposite of desired effect. The bedliner is easy to prep and clean and I wouldn't have a truck without one. I'd do a paint sealant. I use jetseal as it lasts months instead of weeks and is no harder to apply than wax. You can also wax over it to make the paint shinier.

Modern paints are baked on so no need to wait. I prefer Zaino AIO. On and off it 15 minutes and almost a year of protection on my cars. Almost All the benefits of the total Zaino process but only takes one step.

Big fan of Zaino as well. Lots of top brands out there, find something and stick with it. Zaino works best for me.

There is a whole section on the forum devoted to detailing. You will find a wealth of information there about products and techniques from forum members. Remember we each have our very own favorite polish/wax/sealant/coating. What may work well for you might not particularly work well for me. Coatings last the longest, then sealants, then wax. Most waxes only protect for about 3-4 weeks depending on the environment, how often you wash your truck and whether it's garage kept or not. Most good sealants will last up to 6 months and a ceramic coating can last for a few years.
Lots of choices available----

Thanks Jay. I will check out the other sub-forum. Also need to investigate the ceramic coatings. I don't have any knowledge of this as of yet.

Glen-- In addition to the detailing section on the forum you might want to check out a site called "autopia". It is a professional detailer forum in which the pro's discuss the products and techniques they use and they also post pictures of their work. There is also a "store" on the site where you can purchase the products they use. Also on the site is a detailed description of the products and the differences between them. It's worth the time to check it out. Many of their products do a much better job than the OTC stuff you buy at the local parts store or Walmart. Some however are more expensive.

Thanks again Jay. I will definitely check out Autopia. I have a random orbital buffer from Griot's Garage and some of their products. I've used it to bring the paint back to life on my old 95 F150. I know there are better products out there though.

I just applied some Mothers CMX ceramic coating to my work truck. Very easy to use and I like that it can be layered like Zaino to get deeper shine. I can't tell you long term results but it is a easy way to get a ceramic coating for about $25 per bottle. Probaly get at least 10 applications out of one bottle.

I second Mothers CMX. That stuff is awesome. Rained on my truck at highway speeds. Stopped raining and 10 minutes later all the water had rolled right off and my truck was dry.
