My '09 Ram's chrome Nerf Bars were in terrible condition. The PO had them installed by the dealership when he bought the truck new. I was prepared to go to the metal yard today and fab my own using the existing brackets and 2" X 4" tube stock.

I woke up with a different idea...Why not? I had nothing to lose?

Here's what I did...

Tools. Some type of flap looking disc on the grinder. A chisel to pick off the chrome flakes.

I put the mounting bolts back in to give the tube some legs for the top side.

Used some Purple Power and cleaned up the plastic.

I had this same idea! I went to remove the brackets to sand it down and the “nut” or “threaded insert” had broke loose on the inside so it just spun in place. Short of cutting it off, I wasn’t sure what to do. So I ordered new ones.

Glad somebody followed through though. They look great.

I should have done my brackets before installing them. One harsh winter, and they already have surface rust. I hate to remove them now -- as they weren't that fun to install.
