I've got a 2014 Ram 4x4 sport regular cab Hemi. I want to buy a impact socket and need to know whether it's a Metric size or Standard? Truck has factory 20" aluminum wheels. please let me know! Thanks!

i got a nice set of impact sockets on sale at canadian tire in canada for mine. It was a lot better value to get the case with a combo of metric and SAE sockets than to buy an individual socket. Glad I did cause I work on my kids vehicles too so I'm dealing with 3 different lug nut sizes. lol

My 2011 Ram came with chrome lug nuts, the ones that have the chrome caps on them.....ya the garbage ones-lol. A 22mm socket only fits half way on them. My cousin told me I need a 22-1/2 mm socket to get them off. The only place I know of that sells 1/2 size sockets is a snap on truck. Going to replace them very soon. My cousin works for Firestone. He's letting me borrow his 22-1/2 socket so I can swap them for real chrome lugs.

The Snap-on one should be 22mm on one end and 22.5 mm on the other end, handy sockets to have for about 3 more hits with an impact, then you might want to step up to a 23 mm and a hammer to beat the socket off the nut,the chrome cap on a nut that see's a fair bit of impact tightening has to be one of FCA's better ideas, aarrgghh, lol.I swap my rear tires to drag radials pretty well every week-end,so I go through a set of wheelnuts every season, gotta go looking for a set that don't use a cap,lol

damn. these again? It seems to be a shared bad idea cause Ford did the same. Found out the hard way when I first did winter tire swap on daughter's new to her Escape and neither an SAE or metric wrench would fit easily on the nuts. "Swollen caps" on the nuts is how some refer to them and they can get so bad you can't get them off. Didn't you go to Crappy Tire, Rick?:) That's where I got the replacements for my daughters and the price seemed reasonable. I think I got her the McGards.

McGard 64069

Stock style I think is this number- 64073

No luck at Canadian Tire Terry, they have to special order the Mcgards in the bulge style nut that the stock wheel nut uses.

A lot more then that, lol. It's about 60 bucks to buy 12 of the standard McGards at Crappy Tire,so i'm guessing the special order versions are going to be at least that price or more Terry. If you find the bulge style Acorn nuts that are a solid nut with no chrome cap,i need 10,and i'll split you on them, lol.Supposedly Gorilla makes them, but that's only what I've heard through the grapevine, haven't actually gone looking for them,as I don't do online shopping very often.I grew up in a small farming community,so online shopping and me don't go together,i prefer supporting the local brick and mortar Mom and Pop style places, lol

lol. well, when the time comes likely in late August, I'll check in with you first, if you can wait that long. At this point, I would be getting the bulged ones from Amazon. The bulges seem to be about twice the price of the straight version. they are on amazon anyway. I need 4 sets of 4 as I have a McGard lock on each wheel. So if you got 10, you may as well just get 3 sets of 4 and keep 2 as a spare. I prefer supporting local too when it's moderately more but paying probably 100 for 12 at canadian tire versus 100 for 20 is ridiculous. I remembered tdot performance so i looked there. they wanted 60 bucks for 4. insane.

reminds me of a story (older i get the more stories i seem to have. lol). I had a swimming pool living in lethbridge and needed to replace the pool furnace. i went to the best known store who were a client of our radio stations, thought i might get a bit of a break. he looks up the part, opens the book and points to the price. the retail price. 2400 bucks canadian. I said, ok that's the msrp, whats your price? he said..same. So i searched online. found the same heater for 900 canadian and that included tax, duties and 75 dollars freight shipping and the truck driver put it right on my heavy duty wheeler at the end of the driveaway from the semi. What do you do? I'm willing to pay about 10% more to buy local on anything.

ps- that deezee assist cost me 37.95 at 4wheelparts which i thought was excellent. saw same one at jb power center when i went in to pick up the moroso catch can...60 bucks.

anyway, i will check in with you for sure before i order. I'm sure the mcgards are the solid ones. basically same as i got for my daughter, albeit different size. ps- i've checked out the white knight versions because they are cheaper and look good, but lots of complaints of them rusting. i had the gorilla ones in black on my tacoma steel wheels for 6 years. i don't recall them rusting at all so i suppose i should check out if they have the chrome ones and read some reviews, check prices. i did check if there was a mcgard kit and if it was cheaper. for some reason in the kits for dodge trucks, only the straight type are in a kit.

tracked down the gorilla part # (geez..there's clamshell, bulk and a 20 pack number as well) but not much for canadian sources and based on amazon price, the gorillas aren't any cheaper, and harder to find. i know 4 wheel parts sells Gorilla so I'm sent an email request to price 26 out for me (16 for me, 10 for @Wild one) or 28 (7 clamshell packs of 4). See what happens!
