Hey guys, so this is going to sound ridiculous.... but I just discovered my truck has the Veraram Air Grabber intake kit installed on it. "How did I JUST discover this?" Short answer - I'm apparently just not that bright.... long answer - dealer never mentioned it, salesman didnt say a word when he popped the hood and I even said "holy air cleaner"
I had never looked under the hood of a 2016 up until that point, and had never looked under the hood of an SLT.
So I chalked it up to just being a normal thing, and didnt think too much about it.

Anyways..... turns out that I bought the truck with the Veraram Air Grabber installed and didnt know it, want to know if any of you guys run them and what you think of them? Pros - cons, etc.

I've read some reviews online and it's kinda 50/50. Some negative reviews when it comes to cold weather, and I do get quite a bit of snow where I'm located.

Thanks!
Bubba

Lol....nice addition to your purchase!!
There are ALOT of members here who run them, myself included. I custom painted mine!!
The Vararam gives a bunch more oomph on top end.
Give yours a good cleaning and enjoy it.
I cant speak to your snow question but have seen posts about snow problems but most are its not an issue.

Thanks

Well that is one less mod you need to do now lol. I also live in an area with tons of snow each winter. You can buy a prefilter screen that greatly helps with the rain/snow issue

I live in Chicago, which has turned into Little Seattle this year with all of the rain that we’ve had. We also see a fair amount of snow here. I have the Vararam on my 2013 Ram 1500 Sport through last Winter and I have yet to have any problems with it. Enjoy! It helps a lot with the top end but.

You can get a cleaning kit from Matt at Moe's Performance a vendor on this site. Sorry to say this but from the look in that picture, I think you need one ASAP. The filter is an oiled filter. There is a pre filter you can buy to help with the snow if you think that is going to be a problem. Some guys use the prefilter and some guys take them off and replace them with the stock air cleaner system during the winter months--although I don't think that is necessary.

Nice surprise with the truck! The Air Grabber is a great intake as long as you’re diligent about keeping it clean and making sure the filter is fully seated in the base. You can also get an Outerwears prefilter for the filter too if you want to keep water and snow out along with prolonging filter cleanings...

Definitely make sure that the seal u set the air filter goes all the way around. Mine did not and I had to add a little more foam to fill the gap. Apparently that happens a lot!

Ha Ha, he asks if we like them? I'm rather patrial to mine to say the least. The 50percenters online that don't like them are typically the guys that can't walk and chew gun at the same time. lol, You do have to be "methodical" in making sure the base, filter and top are lined up perfectly before tightening (make sure not to over tighten, just a good snug fit) everything down or you'll get dust into your TB area. This is the main complaint guys have, but then, like I said...
Filter is good for 1 million miles by the way.

I also did some before and after tests with the Vararam CAI. The mods I had on my 2014 CC Express 8spd w/ 3.21 gears were as follows, Custom Diablo Tune, MBRP Cat-Back Exhaust, Vararam CAI, 295/50/20 General Grabber UHP. The Vararam was the last performance mod I did to my truck, so the 'before' test I had the custom tune and exhaust. I did 3 runs for each test and I took the average time.

Before
60-80mph: 4.1 sec

After
60-80mph: 3.7 sec

What kind of foam did you use? I've noticed that the seal that is supposed to seal around the hood is not sealed completely. In the areas that the hood is shaped the seal is not flush.

It’s not the hood seal that I was talking about. It’s the foam that is under the air filter element inside the housing that seals to the hood. My Vararam seals well against my hood. But I have a Sport hood, which might make a difference. You can probably use regular house weather insulation foam to do that though.

Go to "Steal Rubber" and you can get the seal you need and clean both services with alcohol and glue together with super glue and it will weld the rubbers together. I had to completely fab my rubber seal as mine was a total custom job to make the kit work on my 3rd gen for which the "Air Grabber" doesn't exist.
Here you can see how mine takes the shape of the underside of the hood now.

^^^^This. Make sure you check that the filter is fully seated in the base of the Air Grabber and you should be good. The only time I had anything past the filter was when I didn't notice the filter wasn't fully seated in the base. After I made sure it was I've had 0 issues with dust.

FWIW on the highway at 65+ my air intake temp ranges from 3-5* above ambient temps with the Air Grabber. No other CAI on a 4th gen will give you those results.

Vararam was one of the very first mods i did to my truck, and after a couple red light races with other stock 5.7 8spd Rams I am extremely satisfied with the performance it offers. My truck literally walks away from stock rams, with only a vararam and pedal commander installed in my truck currently. I had a regular cab with 3.92s start to pull away from me off the line, but I quickly caught up and passed him.
Removing the filter for cleaning is a bit of a hassle for someone as short as I am, but it's definitely a worthwhile modification. With all of the dirty road conditions I deal with, plus having deleted my AGS, ive decided to clean the filter with every oil change (every 5k miles on the dot bc I want to be meticulous, expense be damned)
