Looking into a 6x12 cargo trailer...is it worth it to get a V-nose? Anyone have experience?

Yes I have a 7' X 12" for motorcycles etc and it pulls like a dream. Steel frame, aluminum elsewhere. I haven't towed it with my new Hemi but my 2011 1/2 ton heavy duty ecoboost did fine but at 75 going through mountainous terrain you are talking 7-8 mpg.

2011 ram 1500 with 3.92 and the camper is 37.5ft and just over 8k dry weight. Have airlift 1000 bags and helps with the sag in the rearend. Levels the back perfect with the front end.

Cat skid steer. Approximately 10k including trailer. Handled the weight and the eight speed transmission shifted perfectly going down the road.

Hey Justin O,
What is the longest distance youve hauled that 38 footer? How do you find your truck handles it? I have a 34 foot with the 3.92 at 7100#s. I am about to do a 3000 mile trip weighing in at about 8500#s. I have a WDH and dual sway control but I definitely know Im hauling something..lol

I have a 2020 United XLV 6x14 v front enclosed. Its longer than a 12.. super easy to back. Pulls easy, get 13mpg dry, 11 loaded with commercial mowers. The 6x14 was 300 more than a 6x12 from United. That extra 2ft is awesome. 100lb extra dry weight. See a pic at the bottom of this thread. It's a white v front. Behind my black 16 ram.

Nice trailer. My 12' is a tandem and is as big as I need and then some. I have now towed it a bunch with my '19 Hemi 3.92 and it does extremely well. Instead of 7-8 mpg I run at 11-12 mpg and I must say it feels smoother in the power band and tow. Of course I have the air suspension and 8 more years of improved technology. Generally pleased with the ease and safety. That large back up camera view makes hook up so easy.

Hey y’all, out of all the trailers y’all pull- what is the level coupling height distance on your trailers? I have a thread going about drop hitch questions and I’m just trying to figure out what average coupler height is. I verified yesterday that my little utility trailer’s tongue isn’t in a straight line with the rest of the trailer when it sits level- I dunno, maybe they made it that way on purpose but when it sits level, the tongue is about an inch lower in the front than it is where it meets the rest of the trailer. Problem is, since the measurement from the ground to the top inside portion of my receiver hitch is 20 inches, having my little trailer sit fairly level means I’d need a whopping 7” drop hitch to do that because the measurement from the ground to the bottom of the coupling is a short 13 inches. I have a feeling I’d be fine with a 5” drop, or even a 4 inch drop with this trailer but I’m just thinking more along the lines for when I pull anything else that has tandem axle, where level-riding matters.

I can pull my utility trailer at whatever angle I want, but I’d like for it to ride more level, but in tune with trailers that are a lot closer to normal coupler height, if that makes sense. In other words, being that my truck has auto-leveling air ride, I highly doubt that the average boat, or big flatbed car hauler is gonna need anything more than a 5 inch drop...

Help me out....[emoji851]

When I rent a uhaul a straight bar is usually perfect. Most of the other trailers I pull I run a 3" lift vs drop to make it level. We have pretty similar trucks.

Yeah, I figure probably the only time I’ll ever use the majority of the 6 inches of drop out of I my new Weigh-Safe hitch will be when I hook up to that little bitty utility trailer of mine.

Having that air ride is probably the only reason I’d need any drop at all....lol. The only heavy load I’ve pulled behind my new pickup was a mustang that belongs to my girlfriend’s, daughter’s boyfriend. Without that air ride, a straight hitch woulda probably been sufficient for that.

I use a 5" drop for my United v front in the pic above. However, with the travel trailer I used the standard drop on the WDH.
