Sorry if this is covered somewhere else, I just got my 2500 CTD. The dealer gave it to me full so today was first time I had to put diesel in. I opened the gas lid and WTH? No gas cap just a flimsy plastic insert that slides into the fill neck? Was this an over site by the dealer or do you really get a 60+K truck with no gas cap?

If that’s the case any recommendations on a better solution?

Yup...no fuel cap nor a DPF cap. I got some nice lockable caps from Geno's Garage for my 2017 just to keep fuel thieves and vandals out.

Hmm mine has a DPF cap just no gas cap though it was pretty sorry they don’t include one.

Gee...maybe I should get a refund from the dealer, huh? Mine had plastic caps in both holes.

The capless fuel fillers are for emissions. The capless design seals better and contains fumes and vapor loss better than traditional fillers with removable caps. Plus it takes away the human error of forgetting to put the cap back on or tighten it all the way causing a check engine light. Most if not all manufacturers are switching to this design on the newer models.

Why is this a bad thing? My '15 Charger doesn't have one but my '14 Ram R/T does. I would much prefer it not have one. Are the fuel doors locked on the newer trucks?

Yes I can't remember the thousands of times ive FORGOTTEN to tighten my gas cap or even put it on. The human error is getting rid of the good old gas cap. Google it kids!!!

I’ve never forgotten my gas cap either, but at the same time not having one isn’t going to ruin my day. I have bigger things to worry about than gas cap designs... Ironically, there are probably engineers out there who’s whole life revolves around gas cap designs, lol.

Ah Yah Right
Let's reinvent the wheel. Ah Yah.
Cheapo dip sh.. mov..
How is it cheap? It’s not just a regular gas filler that they left the cap off of. It has a couple of different valves and vapor barriers built into the filler neck to keep things all sealed up. I guarantee it’s more expensive than an old fashioned filler neck with a screw on cap.

I’m with you, I don’t understand what the issue is. The first car I bought without a cap, I just said “cool, no gas cap”, and moved on with my day. At least it still runs on gas.....if we start debating the merits of hybrids then I have more thoughts on that matter!

So my issue again is why reinvent the wheel?

Why reinvent the wheel? So your wheels are same as the ones in 1940? Things change, sometimes better and sometimes worse but they do change. Like said before it is probably an engineering thing that makes sense to them.

Stupidest thing in the world. In any breeze over about 5 MPH, this thing blows away. I've had to chase it down, crawl under my truck, etc just to find the thing after it's blown away.

NEVER once did my screw on cap blow away.

And there is just as much a chance of forgetting to put this stupid thing back in the filler as there is a screw on cap.

Put a retainer or holder or something on the door. These things are totally asinine.
