Anyone run this particular muffler, specifically the 53553 part number. I know a couple guys running the 50 series HD, but this is the 50 series Big Block muffler. It is supposed to be quieter than the HD. Just wondering if anyone is running it and what they thought of it. Did you notice any difference in drivability or mileage (good or bad). What about drone? Looking for something a little more aggressive than my current muffler, that will be a near direct replacement, but dont know about running flowamaster. Always been a magnaflow guy, but the 22” magnaflow outlet is not exactly in the right spot for a direct replacement.

Just looking for input.

I’m running the Flowmaster American Thunder kit and it specs 50 series muffler, not sure it helps you but that thing drones like crazy 1500-1800 rpm. I hated it when I put it on but I guess I got used to it.

That’s why I took the magnaflow off whenever I had the flatbed. Ran it without the resonator and didn’t know if it was the muffler, lack of the resonator, or the flatbed ( or a conbination ) that caused the drone. Went back to stock, then changed to a Walker brand diesel muffler that is essentially the same as the stock muffler, just without the flapper or the 3” reduction inside. Has a bit of a rumble now at idle, but was just looking for something that had more growl and was hoping the flowmaster didnt drone as bad. Wonder if the stock tailpipe would tone the drone down any.

I have the same system. My droned like crazy too. I did the out the back tail pipes and got a spiral muffler insert for side pipes and cut it in half and put a piece inside the pipe right before the tips. Makes a huge difference in drone. Quiets it down some too

All flowmasters drone. It's the nature of the beast. The way they use the exhaust gas to cancel sounds is normally around the same frequency an engine puts out running down the highway.

Doesn’t bother me so much anymore but when I first installed it, it made me crazy.

Check out Solo Performance Mufflers. Quality built and Sounds good without any drone. I installed it on my 16 2500. Model Mach 82.

I was able to call and speak directly with the owner in what I was looking for. They are very well made.

i used to have that same exact muffler on my 09 1/2 ton. if it is quieter than the regular delta flow 50 it wasn't by much. the truck sounded great but with pulling the travel trailer it had a drone. it is what it is i guess. there aren't hardly any options for a 3.5" muffler and all the ones i have found are diesel mufflers. not a big deal but 3.5" inlet and outlets are rare and so is finding one in stainless.

I dont understand why someone cant make a bolt on kit like listed above but with a full sized mellow sounding muffler. Then we dont have to spend 800 or 900 on a full catback but can have a smooth mellow type of sound instead of loud and rasp .

See, thats where Im at too. I just want something that flows better than the stock muffler, with just a subtle rumble. I really dont even want to hear it in the cab much when cruising. Theres a lot of options for loud systems, but not many for the "almost stock" crowd.

The Solo Muffler I installed replaced the Magnaflow one that came in the System I had bought and installed. It was way to loud and wanted something with a Mellower sound. It is made of 304 SS and tig welded. I just had to add a short piece of 3.5" pipe and a Band seal clamp. Easy install.

Replaced the OEM can, with 3.5" FM stainless Super 40 above, and 30" x 3.5"pipe, still have the resonator on. Thought I might remove it, but over six months its gotten a little louder. No drone, cold start sounds great, rumble. Cruising can hardly hear it, windows up. Same when towing, until passing, sounds beastly outside, not too loud inside. Spent about $200, muffler, clamps, & pipe. Did it in the garage, 3 hours. Real happy with it. There are 2, 6.4 reviews in the link above.

I feel like there would be a huge market for this.

I sometimes wonder if running multiple mufflers would help. Just cant bring myself to spend the extra money on the second muffler. When I bought the truck it was stupid loud, and dualed out, so I kinda scabbed it bck together using a Flowmaster y-pipe and some aluminized tubing. I guess if this ever rusted out I would go with a full stainless system; duals run to a DI/SO muffler to a second SI/SO muffler, or a new y-pipe to a pair of SI/SO mufflers in series and see if that works. Just cant see spending the money for that type of setup.

Did you leave the resonator on, or did you have it removed?

I had the 50's series HD duel in duel out, but I felt it was too loud pulling our 5th wheel. I went with the 70's series duel in duel out. By far the best sounding muffler I have ever had! Has a little bit of drone, I think mostly due to I have it dumped before the axle instead of all the way to the bumper. Gives the truck a really low rumble. Kind of like an old big block muscle car. Might just be all in my head, but I feel like I gained a little performance out of this muffler too. I have had many different mufflers over the years, in many different vehicles, & normally I don't feel any positive or negative effects, but I think I gained a few more ponies out of this one.
