I just ordered a fuel filter for my truck. The same MOPAR filter the dealership charges $125 for is $29 on Amazon. I'm changing it myself this time. For what the dealership charges, I'll deal with the mess of doing it

Use a gallon size Ziploc freezer bag, no mess that way.
After you install the new filter, be sure to cycle the key on without starting the engine at least 3-4 times before starting the engine. This is to self purge the air out. You'll probably hear a change when it stops purging air.

Good idea! Looks like quite the mess. How much fuel is in there? Purging the air is very important. Thank you

I didn't realize this before, but the reccomend time frame to change the fuel filter is every 15,000 miles. Whoops. It's been 25,000 since it was last changed

There is not much fuel that comes out. If you were really brave you could probably use a quart sized bag, but having the extra room of the gallon makes it easier once the housing is unscrewed.

Not that I would recommend it but going over on the fuel filter change probably has more to due with local fuel quality.
There was a Canadian EcoDiesel owner that topped well over 100,000 KM on a fuel filter (if I remember correctly, he traded that truck in without changing). He was well over 100,000 KM on his second EcoD also before filter change.

The owners manual says Every 2nd oil change. HA! No water, changed mine at 75000 miles. And then 2k miles later a dealer told me I needed to have it changed for only $165.00.

I finally got the time to do it. Now I know it only takes a few minutes and that it's really easy to do

caution, diesel will dissolve a ziploc bag. (not immediately but in a couple days)

Didn't even need the bag. Nothing came out when I took it off after using the drain on the bottom

Here's a video I took of my EcoDiesel Fuel Filter change from when I had a 2014 EcoDiesel:

It's super easy - no reason to pay someone big money for this.

I used the bag and didn't even need it. When I used the drain int drained out everything. I'll still use the bag though, just in case.
