If any of you have tried putting fuel additives into a newer diesel you know my frustration. The first time i did this I think the whole bottle ended up in the parking lot. For those that don't understand, I will try to explain. When you open the fuel door there is a cap, followed by a flap, then there is another flap farther down the neck. When you put the pump into the filler neck it is long enough to open both flaps. Most fuel additive bottles are not. If it doesn't clear the second cap it backs up and comes out onto the ground. I have been carrying a funnel with me, but the problem there is that the funnel is incredibly dirty from being in the bed of my truck. Why do all funnels not come with lids / caps for both ends?

So then i found this:

https://www.amazon.com/Lisle-17252-...with+lid&qid=1570217617&s=automotive&sr=1-158

Anyone have a better solution? Kinda expensive for a funnel.

I think this would work like new money, and not near as expensive!

That is similar to the one I have. I want to keep one in my truck so I can add at fillup, and they get really dirty in the bed. Cant keep in cab because whole cab smells like diesel fumes. I wanted one with a lid and cap to keep dirt and sawdust out of it. Didn't think this would be hard to find. Maybe i should invent and patent it. I have found a few but they have a soft hose or corrugated expanding hose that I worry will get stuck in the flaps.

I would not use the first one that is linked above. If that two piece neck comes apart it might get stuck in the filler neck or fall into the tank. Neither would be fun to fix. My 2016 diesel RAM came with a little funnel under the passenger seat that is for emergency fueling. It is on the backside of the jack hold down bracket. It is long enough to open both flaps in the filler neck but not too large that it is a pain to store. It could probably fit into a quart ziplock bag to keep it clean.

My solution? Don't waste $$ on diesel fuel additives. They are unnecessary and don't actually do anything.

My solution was to remove the spring from the top flap & rehang the flap.
You still need a long neck small funnel to push down through the check ball - Very Easy now to add my fuel additives.
(Diesel Quality in this country is horrid - So adding my 6oz every fill up just makes me warm and fuzzy inside) - Number crunching puts it at an extra $1.32 per fill up!

As for a Waste of $$$ ?
I honestly think adding $3K worth of larger wheels and tires is waste of $$$
As well as those $1K-$2K lift kits.
Maybe go so far as those $1K dollar audio upgrades most do.
The best is spending $300 for a CAI! :banghead:
Even adding $1K worth of tuning - just to blow black smoke? :buttkick:

Possibly running synthetic oil is a huge waste of $$$.
Now: The newest craze spend $400 for a dam rearend cover!
Anyone with any common sense at all would realize - Really $400? Now that’s $$$ we’ll spent! :hump: :Hump:

I wont even go into - Those who Smoke - Dip- Drink- & do drugs as the largest waste of $$$...

We all waste $$$ every min of every day!

In my mind: that argument is & has been totally worthless ----> Just Me & My of course LOGICAL Opinion!
My fuel additive fetch costs me around $70 a year.
Honestly - I make that in 2 hrs @ work - So if that's all the $$$ I waste on the JUDGE ---> I'm in great shape.
 Have a Great Day Everyone!

This is from last year!
Yes I bought a billet cap or plug for the fill hole.

I had a gallon of some kind of fuel additive on the rear floorboard of my truck and didn't realize the lid didn't seal tight and some leaked out on my Huskyliner. I cleaned up the spill but there is still the smell of this in the cab, even though this happened 6 or 7 years ago but thankfully it isn't near as strong of odor as when it happened.

I have a Roll-n-lock bed cover on my truck and keep a plastic storage box back there with camping stuff in it and that is where my PS diesel kleen stays now. I think the zip seal freezer bag idea is great if you have to keep a funnel in the cab, and it also would keep a funnel clean in the open box too. My 2011 Ram must be old enough that is doesn't have those flap things in the filler neck, and I keep a two stroke mixing bottle in my passenger side door storage to pour the additive in and have no trouble pouring into the filler neck with it.

Soki: Here is the small funnel I bought & use for additives.
It’s a small funnel but the neck is plenty long enough to go through & past the check ball at least 2 in.

I actually have a small (Tupperware tote) that I keep it in as well as the smaller additive funnel for the wifes Ford ST. (This funnel came with the car)
This keeps both Clean and ready for the next use!
The little tote stays on the shelf in the garage - When I know I'm going to be fueling up soon - I just add the additive to that tank before hand.

I just went and looked and I didn't see a funnel under seat, bought truck used so it may not have been returned. However the problem wasn't the funnel. I have a couple that work fine. I just thought there may be something out there that you could cap off after using to keep dust and dirt out of it. These small funnels are also impossible to wipe out. I do a lot of carpentry work and my bed constantly has sawdust in it. Also didn't want to put it back in cab after using because of the smell. Not a huge deal just something I was looking for a solution.

So finally got these in mail today. I think this will work just fine. Small enough I can keep in a ziploc and store in rear driver door pocket in easy reach when fueling. Had to buy as a six pack so I guess my buddies with diesels will be getting these for Christmas.220a77c390658ad14029541323d82a56.jpg

I purchased Stanadyne Additive (their bottle clears both lids), then just reuse bottle with my own mixture of Additive per fill-up.
I also have the blue funnel and it works well.

Finally, I only use power service xtreme diesel locations for fuel since the power service additive is already added to the fuel.
You can look up your location, ours is Chevron here in Alaska. Truck actually runs much better with these temperatures.

The only additive I have been using is (Amsoil) anti-gel stuff; the bottle neck is also insufficiently long to clear the second "dam". My solution is to use a cheap long-tailed funnel, or to use a two handed method... pour a partial dose into the filler, chase with Diesel fuel, and repeat as necessary until the proper amount of additive (usually just a few ounces) has been added.
