I have received the OTA msg several times, and each time I tried I would get the "update failed" msg. I received an email with the update info, and to follow the directions. The next day we had a phone msg telling me the same thing about updating. Not a big computer guy, so a friend picked up a USB flash drive and followed the procedures to do it. Plugged it into the truck, and it indicated the USB is not supported ? Called UConnect and they asked what brand flashdrive, told them it was a San Disc, and the person with the very broken English informed us that San Disc will not work ??? So back to the store for another flashdrive, and my friend repeats the procedure on the computer. Attempt # 2, and the same thing, "not supported". Another call to Uconnect, more delays and now told it is the USP flashdrive. When asked what one will work, they said we needed a "Kingston 4gb". Of course no one in our area sells them, so I had to order one, and now it will be a "wait & see" once that arrives. I asked about the OTA that I received and was told they "don't" offer that anymore ??? I have read all the post on this, and it seems like some work, and some don't. I had issues with this radio over a year ago, and things were fixed. I was also told by Ucoonect that GPS and satellite radio has nothing to do with Uconnect, but now they say I can lose my GPS w/o this update ? Sorry for the long post, but this has been, and still is a very frustrating system. But Uconnect did tell me that I had 4 re-calls on the truck and if I was aware of them... I really not fond of dealers and really don't want to go that route and have to pay for something like this. Does anyone know what happens if you just leave it like it is ? I don't care if the GPS is updated or not, don't use any of the fancy features it offers. Also makes me wonder if updates are more of a hassle if your NOT a Uconnect subscriber ? I sure miss the old "non tech" days.

Thanks.

Jim

You need to extract the files from the downloaded zip onto the USB drive.

Format the USB drive as FAT32 before doing so, the only files that should end up on it are the 5 that are in the downloaded zip.

The resulting USB file listing should look like:

Well, right on schedule, November 3, my clock is several hours wrong and my GPS is completely lost. I never got the OTA update and uconnect website said I was up to date at 17.11.07. So I'm driving around today (November 4), I get to the grocery store, shut off the truck, and I get the OTA software update message. I hit yes do the update now, go into the store for 30 to 40 minutes, come out to the truck, start it up and the screen says "Update failed. Take the truck to the dealer". Now isn't that special. I get the truck home, it gives me another chance to do the OTA update. I tell it "yes, schedule the update for a time 5 minutes from now". Go in the house, come out two hours later, the update isn't done and no error message either. We go out to dinner, get to the restaurant, again it says "OTA update available". I scheduled it for sometime during the night. I'll see what happens tomorrow. I checked uconnect again a few minutes ago. NOW is says there is an update for my truck. I downloaded it just in case I have to do it manually tomorrow. Boy is this frustrating. Good thing I have advanced education and training in computers, networking, and electronics.
I know you are all waiting to hear about my next update... I scheduled the OTA update for sometime in the middle of the night last Tuesday. Checked the results today (Friday, I was away for a few days) and guess what? No update. Still at 17.whatever. So fortunately I had downloaded the update from driveuconnect on a usb drive. On the way home from the store this morning, I popped the usb into the slot, the update started, I drove home, and by the time I got home the update was done. Took about 20 minutes or so. When it was done, I turned the car off, opened and closed the door a few times, restarted the car, the clock took a few minutes to set the correct time. I checked the NAV map and found a message "Map needs to be calibrated. Drive to a main road with a clear view of the sky." (or something like that). I drove to the main road, did a lap around the neighborhood, the map figured out where it was and set itself. So far, everything looks good. Software version is now 18.45.01. Keeping my fingers crossed nothing else goes wrong. Thanks for playing along at home.

Yeah, take anything any UConnect "support" rep says with a bag full of salt grains.

You're better off consulting this (or other) forums for actual help.

Well I tried 2 different USB drives this time and am on try #6. Then it got to where froze last time and then this screen popped up. So I'm guessing I cannot update and my uconnect is now bricked?

I *think* if you pull the USB during a certain step of the update, it will revert back, but Im not 100% sure.

EDIT: try this:

https://lancelhoff.com/recovering-bricked-uconnect-8-4-failed-update/

Otherwise, yes, it is bricked. As mentioned before, NavRepair should be able to fix it, but if you are handy yourself you *might* be able to do something with it. Ive never tried it, but the Sierra Wireless card it refers to is a either plugged or soldered onto the mainboard. If its just plugged in, its possible that it just needs to be re-seated.

You would have to open up the radio unit to get to it, though.

Well talked to a uconnect specialist tonight about the issue. I explained to him the whole situation that was going on. He gave me a case # to give the dealership. From what he told me, I'm going to be able to get the radio in my truck replaced with no charge to me. I'll keep you guys updated on what happens with that.

Glad to hear the San Disc worked for you, makes you wonder why Uconnect tells me that San Disc does not work... Plus there is no mention of what brand disc you should use. Their suggested Kingston brand will arrive on Monday, so hopefully that might work. I still would like to know if everything will still work without any updates ? The last thing I want is to have it "bricked"...

If you don't have or use navigation, the update doesn't really fix much other than the automatic clock setting.

Thanks, I do have navigation and use it at times, but not too concerned about new maps. Nor do I use any of the Bluetooth stuff.

It's not an update for the maps.

Is it an ra3 or ra4 radio? If so, the navigation will be inaccurate until you install the update.

It is a ra4.

Thanks again.

Jim

Yeah, if you tried nav now it would probably be "way off" in regards to your actual location, the map view will show you feet or yards away from where you really are, etc.

I dont think we've heard of anyone bricking the unit with the latest update, which is a good sign :)

RAM Outdoorsman had an issue, but its not unique to this update. Older units (to be honest, yours is a 2013 so it might apply) seem to occasionally have that issue with their Sierra Wireless card. It doesnt really show up until you attempt to update, although there are other symptoms (occasional "service 911" system message, etc).

So, I have a 2013 with factory RA4...I was on 17.43.01 and got an OTA notification about a month ago. I have never received the OTA however. I just ran my VIN on uConnect site and it says I can install 18.45.01-My13-17. I downloaded it and I am ready to install this afternoon but I just wanted to check and see if there are any issues? What is the change log and why didn't I ever get the OTA?

The 18.45.01 update seems to be fine so far for most of the guys that have installed it. I updated mine and it's been fine afterwards. The main reason for the new firmware is to update the Sierra Wireless Card so your Nav will function correctly after the satellite rollover on 11/03/19.

My buddy just got 18.43.01 in his 2016 200 with RA4. So, it looks like there’s a few different version numbers floating around. This is odd.
My 2016 Laramie with RA4 NAV got update installed by the dealer and it was 18;43;01 or should I have gotten the other 18:45:01 update. When I go to uconnect site and put my VIN in and it says I should get 18:45;01 so I dont know who is correct at this point really hurts my brain you know thinking that I maybe have the wrong update.

I believe 18.43.01 is just a little older version, but still fixes the GPS rollover issue.

18.45.01 is the latest release, and is what they're pushing out now.

If you already have 18.43.01, then your nav system should be accurate. You can install the 18.45 release if you want, but are probably just fine with the version you have. If it's worth 20 minutes of your time to have the latest version, feel free to go for it.

Some members on the Grand Cherokee forum have successfully went from version 18.43.01 to 18.45.01.

I just finished updating from 17.43.01 to 18.45.01 via USB drive. It took about 20 minutes.

Mine is a Canadian truck BTW. I never got any over the air update messages, but had no problem updating with a flash drive.

I also successful upgraded from 17.43.01 to 18.45.01 in my 2013 with RA4. It took about 20 minutes and I even did while driving. No issues at all.
