I haven’t pulled with my truck very many times, but the biggest thing that I have hauled was my wife’s 2019 crew cab ram on a 16ft car hauler after she hit a cow. Her truck barely fit on my trailer. Towed it about 35 miles home and then another 20 miles the next day to the body shop.

I towed my brother 2003 Silverado 1500 HD 4X4 about 60 miles today. It was raining and I live on a dirt road. About 6 miles was on slippery muddy roads, but I only slipped a couple of times. Not bad for a 2WD!

How did that go? I'm getting a 33ft trailer, 5klbs....
It wasn't bad. This one is 31 to 33 ft I think including the tongue but has a slide out and is about 5800 plus dry. Found out the previous owner had put air bag assistance in after our first trip lol. Will find out next time we camp how much better that is. We also have a whd for the camper as well.

I’ve pulled all kinds of weird loads, but the last load I just pulled yesterday I knew the weight of. It was a 2100 lb uhual car carrier with a 2013 Hyundai Elantra that weighs roughly 2300 lbs. considering that I was pulling my max towing capability of 4400 the truck felt great. Average 13.7. Some city, mostly uphill highway. 91 miles.

temps stayed acceptable. Not really sure why that’s my max weight allowed becAuse I felt super stable, just a little slow at times.

Hey y’all, out of all the trailers y’all pull- what is the level coupling height distance on your trailers? I have a thread going about drop hitch questions and I’m just trying to figure out what average coupler height is. I verified yesterday that my little utility trailer’s tongue isn’t in a straight line with the rest of the trailer when it sits level- I dunno, maybe they made it that way on purpose but when it sits level, the tongue is about an inch lower in the front than it is where it meets the rest of the trailer. Problem is, since the measurement from the ground to the top inside portion of my receiver hitch is 20 inches, having my little trailer sit fairly level means I’d need a whopping 7” drop hitch to do that because the measurement from the ground to the bottom of the coupling is a short 13 inches. I have a feeling I’d be fine with a 5” drop, or even a 4 inch drop with this trailer but I’m just thinking more along the lines for when I pull anything else that has tandem axle, where level-riding matters.

I can pull my utility trailer at whatever angle I want, but I’d like for it to ride more level, but in tune with trailers that are a lot closer to normal coupler height, if that makes sense. In other words, being that my truck has auto-leveling air ride, I highly doubt that the average boat, or big flatbed car hauler is gonna need anything more than a 5 inch drop...

Help me out....[emoji851]

I have a Diamond utility trailer that they told me that I need a 15" ball height. They lied. To run it level I have to use a 7.5 " drop hitch. It's awfully low, but it works. I have to take the wheel off the jack for clearance. I put 6" longer bolts using galvanized pipe for risers just to be able to use the wheel. I have a 13 1500 regular cab with the factory towing package, or at least I did until a woman ran a red light last week. But it towed fine. All of those utility trailers seem to be built with the same low tongue.

That’s interesting to hear. I’ve used my new WeighSafe drop hitch several times now and I just run it with the maximum of 6 inches drop. My trailer still rides like one of them goofy wannabe Baja pickups that looks like it’s dragging its butt on the ground but at least it’s not near as bad as it was when I used that 2” drop hitch I had before.

Traded in a 2018 Jayco X17z for a 2019 Jayco X23b earlier this month. Dry weigh of the new trailer 4400lbs and went from 18.5 feet to 24.5 feet. It was a 400 mile round trip from Long Island to PA and back. Truck did great especially for being a V6.

2017 Ram 1500 with the 350.
Bought the truck in Cali and never needed to tow much of anything. Moved to Oklahoma and now I’m hauling tons of stuff.

Heaviest yet was a trailer loaded with 2.10 cords of black jack and post oak mixed. Did the math afterwards and it’s around 13000 pounds, not including the trailer weight.
Pulled it easily, across the rolling terrain we have out here, without issue. Only towed it about 60 miles though.

2010 Wildwood 29BH weighed about 9,500 lbs full of gear. I've since sold it as it was just too heavy!camper.jpg

I pulled a 30ft RV trailer that weighed around 9K lbs. It was loaded with stuff for a long Nascar weekend and 6 people. Even with the load distributing 10K hitch, it was a pain to haul. I had Timbren bumpstops installed, and i was riding on them with every small bump.

Otherwise, I had rented a heavy Uhaul car hauler when i originally picked up this '83 Jeep J10. Once the truck was loaded, it was probably around 7K lbs which was do-able, but not too comfortable. Flat towing was a lot easier for the saved weight. I've since sold it, and thinking about getting a small family RV. 17097230_10158579963545556_6933837548484610846_o.jpg j10.jpg

For the first 3 years with my 2017 5.2 RAM, I hauled a Trail Runner 302SLE travel trailer with a 2002 Sportster trike conversion attached to a receiver hitch with the front wheel off the ground. Towed MANY a mile with this combo, estimated 9k lbs. Recently bought a 2020 Puma Unleashed toy hauler that weighs in about 10.2k unladen. Add another 1300 lbs when the Tri-glide is in the garage. So, around 11.k. No issues to date! I even get better MPG with the fifth wheel even though it's a lot heavier!

I towed a 34 ft TT that weighed dry around 9k lbs, with stock bump stops and a reese antisway platform and NEVER had an issue. This would lead me to believe the weight distribution platform wasn't set up correctly. Sounds like it took too much weight off the steer axle. I now have a 40ft fifth wheel and had to add Airlift to the rear end. Just my 2 pennies worth.
