I have a 16 Ram 2500 Limited with a RA4 with Nav. I'd like CarPlay, can I upgrade to an UAQ?
Any adapter harnesses I need to buy?

Does your limited already have Dual Zone ATC?

If so you just need the 18 ram UAQ radio, 18 premium USB hub and from us ... hub Adapter harness.
If your truck is a diesel you will likely also need a heated seat/wheel interface module to get the radio menu buttons to work with the seats (4c Seat Module from Infotainment or Enigma module from Customtronix)

Yeah, it’s a CTD. Yes, I have the dual zone ATC.
Is a UCQ the same as a UAQ?

I thought it would be more of a plug and play. If I have to add modules and stuff I might as well go aftermarket.
Prices are kind of crazy. For what these media centers sell for I could get an Alpine media center.

What’s the advantage to stay with an OEM unit?

Each has it's own pros/cons.

If you go aftermarket you will need to get an idatalink Maestro interface and compatible radio to maintain ANY of the factory integrated vehicle Menu settings, a uRam USB interface board and I'm not sure what else. You can end up with more features in the end vs factory.

If you go with a UAx radio, I recommend sticking with a known 18 ram PN for best compatibility and updates. You'd essentially have the same setup as you do now but with Android Auto/ CarPlay.
The only issue with the upgrade on your particular truck is getting the on screen menu for the heated seats and wheel to work. If you have the hardware buttons under the radio they will still operate the seats/wheel.
People have successfully used 13-17 Canadian ram 8.4 radios in the 13-17 USA trucks, so there's a good likelihood they would also work, but you'd need to find a vin that matches the vehicle the radio came from for sw updates.

The 2 PNs in UAQ radio upgrade thread are known to be the correct USA versions and we have current updates shared in the fw info thread (68331631Ax = UAQ 4c Nav and 68331635AH = UAS 4c).

Yeah, I'm not sure which way to go.
My friend is basically an Alpine rep. He suggested the ILX-F309 and it looks really nice. The audiophile in me (from the 90s) would say yes! But, I guess the 43 year old in me is saying to stay OEM.
TBH, I like the flat screen and nothing protruding as well as would be asking for someone to break in and steal it. But, I know the sound quality will be much better.
If I get a UAQ, I'll probably add a Audio Control Processor and put JL amps in and swap speakers, hope the Focals I have will fit.

I know the Alpine would make the amp and speakers easier and most likely sound better too.

The OEM unit I was looking at is this one. He said it's a UCQ, Canadian version of the UAQ. It hasn't been installed in a vehicle so VIN shouldn't be an issue.

I want to thank everyone in this great forum/community for a great year, and wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Sincerely,

Mike G.
(Mpgrimm2).
Id like to thank everyone this forum for all the input of everyone problems and the help each other gives. I come from long line of modifying cars and trucks, never did I have such help. Its great everyone helping each other.

Mike, thanks to you and Deerguy for you support in supplying quality harness and products. It makes everyone's upgrades better working and better outcome. Trust me have done plenty in the past with dismal results.

Happy new year to all.

I ordered the below harness back in May of 2018. By the time I was going to start getting everything else that I needed, the humidity sensor issue came about. Now that it looks like everything has been ironed out, I wanted to try again, but I don't think this harness will work. I am guessing this is the version 1 harness. Is there any way that I can swap this one for a version two with the humidity sensor plug or get this one fixed so it will work?

Good morning. Looking to buy the 1500 fog light Extension harness for my work truck. A 2019 1500 Classic. Will this harness still work?
