Looking for advice on what you have used to remove plastidip from rims. picked up a new set of 2010 (i believe) stock rims and the guy i bought them from plastidipped them. and i cannot get this stuff off. i have tried everything i can thing of but it will not come off. So far the list of products i have tried are and dont laugh at this. Im desperate here lol. Glass Cleaner. Engine degreaser. WD-40. Brake cleaner. carb cleaner. paint thinner. goo gone. goof off ( seems to work the best but still barely does anything). tire shine. the pic attached is after trying all of those products over the past 3 days. Im about to dunk these rims in a bath of gas then hit them with 5000 psi out of a pressure washer.

Then it’s not plasti-dip. Judging by the scratch above the hub/top middle spoke, it’s paint. Dip will soften and peel with most of those products you’ve applied, I’ve power-washed many applications with goo gone squeaky clean.

if it was paint wouldnt the paint thinner remove it. or do something? would goof off work better than paint thinner on paint? also that scratch is from me.... with a screwdriver... lol

If you want them back to chrome it’s going to take some elbow grease

It will most likely need a Chrome replate or a lot of fine grit sanding with polish to ever get back to a consistent mirror finish. Let us know how it turns out!

Try using goo gone or paint remover with a heavy application in one spot. If he used a bedliner product instead of plastidip it'll be chemical resistant and probably wont come off without taking the chrome plate with it.

ive used goo gone and paint thinner and it did nothing. goof off however takes it off somewhat. just takes ALOT of scrubbing with a microfiber towel.

Goo gone and microfiber towels. When plastidip is not sprayed on heavy, the thin coats make it a PITA to get off (That’s why an actual sprayer works much better than just using the aerosol can). I dipped my roof on my old FJ and it took hours to remove due to the light coats.
Let the rims sit in the sun, then try the goo gone. Or if it’s cold out, try a heat gun first.

Alright. I dont know if the stuff on the rims is paint, plasti dip, or Bedliner. But this right here taking it off without the slightest of problems. Keep in mind the list of stuff ive already tried and the first pic I posted is after all of that. The pic I'm posting now is after letting this stuff set for 15 min and wiping 1 time. Without any pressure.

Ha, I was just going to say try some citric acid based cleaner. That's what I've used to get off those stupid dealer billboards they put on your vehicles, road tar, stubborn bug corpses, etc. I had no idea if it would work for you or not in this instance but it was going to be my recommendation.

Pretty sure those are a chrome clad wheel basically plastic ove the wheel. You can just order new black covers and save yourself a lot of time and money over having them painted and not sure that they can be powder coated either due to them having to go in the oven.

Couldn't find your wheels with a google search for wheel covers/skins. Other covers may work just not positive on that. Continue with the stripping of the wheels and do a good rattle can job on them making sure to sand them well and a good etching primer before paint. A few coats of clear after paint and they should hold up for a good while.
