Unfortunately, my truck has to sit outside and recently I have mice nesting under the hood, destroying the silencer pad. Anybody have any experience with ultra sound devices that keeps rodents away?

Well, i can tell you my story. Had a couple of honda fits few years back 2015 and 2017, mice havent ever touched anything ive ever had, until those. cost me 400 dollars twice! to have wiring fixed. So when i got this truck i put a bright light under it every night spray some rodent repellent around now and then and have put a radio under it at times. I know its nuts but knock on wood haven't had anything bother it. Sits from friday til friday. Only driven on the weekends.

A small tin with moth balls in it left under the truck will help... if you don't mind the smell of them. I did this with an old farm tractor.

we had some plug in ultrasonic mouse chasers. however, we still had mice. threw those away and made some peanut butter bucket traps. 5 gallon bucket, a wire hanger drilled through the bucket across the top with a tin can skewered by the wire, peanut butter coated around the can, a ramp so the mice can get to the top of the bucket, climb across the wire, eat the peanut butter. then the can twirls around, mouse falls into bucket. bucket is filled with water so they can't jump out. or fill it higher and they drown. No need to reset the trap other then emptying the bucket every so often. I no longer have mice.

when used outside, won't kill the neighborhood cat or dog.

I have to park my vehicles out side, one of which is a Class B dodge van chassis RV ( lots of food Smells I’m sure). Peppermint oil on cotton balls works very well for keeping critters out. There are lots of watered down and fake oils on amazon, the “NOW foods” according to my wife is the real stuff. Paid about 15 for 4oz.

But curious what really does work ! Had a mouse or two try and make a home in my car Cabin Air Filter, He ate some of the filter and insulation ! The car had been sitting a while as I was using my RAM alot ! Now with mixed driving the car and truck so far no issue, BUT if I remember I set the control for vents to Recirculate ! Not sure if outside vent stays closed when you shut off the car, but so far so good..
As for Moth Balls I have heard mixed reviews ! heard those plug in things are just snake !!! !!!SO really curious what does work , Great thread !

I've tried every method under the sun and nothing worked.....until I made the bucket trap , mentioned above and killed all of them.

I was hoping no one would go to the trouble of making a bucket trap and then adhere to the catch and release policy.

I live on 2.5 acres, have goats, chickens, fruit trees. Had the worst rat/mouse issues forever. I use the buckets outside and I also use some Tomcat pellets /mixed with peanut butter where my dogs can't get at it, in my barn and work shop. I don't think I've seen a mouse for years.

Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had 2 mice in my RV while I was camping.

I got 1 on mouse sticky paper.

The second I go by putting water into the RV's tub and leaving the curtain out. The mouse climed up the curtain, fell into the tub and could not get out. Hit it with a stick and killed it.

Yes, like many problems, only killing it works.

My neighbor mixes a water-soluble hot sauce with more water and puts it in spray bottle to spray under the hood, claims it works fine. I buy Lavender oil and sprays and use the spray around my garage and inside of my old motorhome and it also seems to work as a deterrent. Kinda Foofy but it seems to work.
In tucked-away spots on the motorhome I do use sticky-traps and the newer snapping traps. I live in the woods and have deer mice and wood rats running around which will do immense damage to wiring, etc.
PS: the sticky traps work best with a little birdseed sprinkled on and around them.

I had an ultra sound device on my last truck. Popped the hood once and saw a mouse dancing the Macarena to the beat.

Owning an RV, boat, and vehicles in the garage for the winter, rodents and I have a hateful relationship. I've tried all the voodo from fancy smelling soaps, dryer sheets (they used them for a nest), ultrasonic sound devices, etc. We could not use poisons because we have indoor/outdoor cats plus tons of hawks and owls on our property.

What I found that works is a product called RatX. The critters will consume the RatX pellets which cause extreme dehydration and their death. The active ingredient doesn't cause harm to their pray. So far, so good. Because the product causes dehydration, if the mouse konks in a wall or other closed area, they won't smell.

RatX is sold at hardware and big-box home stores.
