I tried just taking the clad off with an industrial heat gun and it was nothing like the youtubers. The "glue" stayed on and it look like heavy sanding or sandblasting was the only way. I can buy a new set of rims cheaper than getting them sandblasted and powdercoated here.

Might try take the stem out and stick one in the oven and see it it helps with softening whats on there.

Good lesson in just spend the extra money to get what you want in the first place.Saves yourself a ton of time , elbow grease, money for strippers (the chemical kind not the good kind) and gas for the pressure washer.

I have had two sets of alloy rims sandblasted and epoxy primered in black and they hold up very well.

If you are going to get them repainted anyway , have the paint shop bead blast or soda blast them. That way the surface will be abraded for the paint or epoxy coating.

considering i paid 150 for all four rims im good on that lesson. yeah of course i could go out and spend a grand on something i could just bolt right on but i didnt want to spend the money. i like the learning curve of trying new things. im thinking now ill probably go all though way and do it myself 100 percent. Never done work on a rim before why not start here.

I am kind of late to the party here but next time you run into Plasti dip, check out "Dipyourcar.com", they sell all things to "dip" your car and parts, they also sell a remover called "Dip Dissolver" designed especially for plasti dip removal. Hope this helps in the future for anybody else with this problem.

If you have the time and just.want experience then by all means. This is why I say I'd buy them pre stripped. Link will go away once sold, but local to me and probably get a few hundred back selling the tires https://vancouver.craigslist.org/rds/wto/d/langley-township-southwest-20-oem-ram/7020777536.html

Looking for advice on what you have used to remove plastidip from rims. picked up a new set of 2010 (i believe) stock rims and the guy i bought them from plastidipped them. and i cannot get this stuff off. i have tried everything i can thing of but it will not come off. So far the list of products i have tried are and dont laugh at this. Im desperate here lol. Glass Cleaner. Engine degreaser. WD-40. Brake cleaner. carb cleaner. paint thinner. goo gone. goof off ( seems to work the best but still barely does anything). tire shine. the pic attached is after trying all of those products over the past 3 days. Im about to dunk these rims in a bath of gas then hit them with 5000 psi out of a pressure washer.

I wish RAM would sell the chrome clad covers alone without needing to buy a whole new rim. The covers hold up well if you take care of them but **** happens and it would be nice if you could change them out if needed. But try to remove one-well forget about it!!
