I agree 100% I want V8 power at my gas petdal not lag and weird noises now I have a magna flow stainless muffler afe long tubes with cat delete and a nice lumpy cam.. [emoji6] No more lag or weird voodoo just V8 power.

Absolutely agree, kind of similar to the car tires they put on them for better mileage. Give me some good all terrains that actually look and perform correctly for a truck. And sounds like a great setup, bet it sounds awesome.

It definately is, it's especially helpful when towing it eats fuel haha. But that said if you seen what I tow. [emoji1787]

2013 Laramie Longhorn with MDS. 5.7Hemi 6AT 3:55 Rear End 4x4. Green Filter and Flowmaster 40. The only two ways I know of to Disable MDS is with an Aftermarket Tuner OR by pushing in the Tow/Haul Mode Switch on the Center Console. That is what I do for running around town. I disable the THM once I am on the Interstate and thereby enabling the MDS and occasional ECO Light. 13 City and 17 Hwy with AT Tires and minimal load. Your MPGs are great given your lift, tires, and gears. Never shoot a gifted horse and yours is gifted... JP

So the ECO light is a display setting. My brother in law has a ‘13 and he had to turn the light on. As far as the rest, not sure

Go into settings and see if "Show fuel saver" is on or off. That does not turn MDS off or on, it only does the light. I never feel shifts under normal acceleration with light on or off.

The eight digit in a Ram VIN is for horsepower. "T" is for the 5.7 Hemi on 1500s. "G" is currently the PentaStar with eTorque and that would've been a different letter on the 4th gens.

I'm not seeing a reference to a "D" in the eight position. But I am quite certain that all 4th gen 1500s with 5.7s had MDS feature.

Are you sure you have a 5.7 Hemi? Ram 1500s had the 4.7 V8 as an option in 2013 and that would mean a different eight digit code. The 4.7 did not have MDS.

Best regards,
Dusty

Why would you turn it off
With aftermarket exhaust it sounds horrible going from 4 to 8 and vice versa. Also throttle response and it sounds like from some comments on here it doesn't help gas mileage that much so why even have it. I have stock exhaust so the sound problem doesn't concern me...yet. As for MPG, I am getting about 12.8 combo city/ highway and my Grand Cherokee (4WD) w/ 5.7 and MDS (Can tell it's working) gets about 16.5 city/ highway. It's a lot smaller and weighs less so that would explain the better MPG. I am just looking for a way to help the MPG, thats why I wanted to try and see why it wasn't working.

Yeah, I don't have the option to turn the ECO light on. The radio needs an update so maybe after I do that I will be able to turn on the fuel saver. I have the update downloaded and have been trying to update it for days now. Won't acknowledge the update no matter what I do. Tried several different thumbdrives and so far no luck. That's another topic though. Thanks.

Everything I have always updated has been downloaded as a zip file............you need to extract (unzip) files to thumb drive......not put zip file on......just throwing that out there.....you may have already known this.
I have the basic radio & my eco light has always come on......so no idea about the fuel saver being able to turn light on or off.
I have updated the 2014 Jeep Cherokee several times though with thumb drive by extracting zipped files.

Yeah, extracted and copied files over using serveral tools. 7 zip, Akami, WINRAR...tried two different drives. I am a IT Systems Analyst and do this kind of thing regularly so thats why I perplexed why it won't work for me. I have a theory it's because an update was skipped. The version on it is 15.26 and I am trying to load 18.45. I can't help but think the updates need to be done in order and I know there is a version 17.11.07. Possibly that needs to be loaded first then update to 18.45 but that might just be the analyst in me. Next step is to get Ram support on the phone for assistance. I also did a factory reset and tried to update. That was also no joy. I post the solution and outcome when I get it figured out.

I turn off MDS with every shift into drive...no ECO light unless I forget [which is rare]. Paid for all eight and damn it if I ain't gonna use 'em all. I'm averaging over 17 mpg and I tow around once a week.

The updates don’t have to be done in order. What happens when you put the USB stick into the port? Does anything show up on the radio when you do that?

Is it possible to NOT have MDS on a 2013? I just bought a used 2013 Laramie last month and I have yet to see the ECO light come on. Checked the EVIC and radio to see if I need to enable it but don't have the option to do so. The original sticker says MDS but I am not seeing it. I read in another forum that if the 8th digit of the VIN is a 'D' then the vehicle does not have MDS and the 8th on mine is a D. Can anyone clear this up for me? I don't necessarily want the MDS, just want to know why I am not seeing it.
my 2012 Bighorn has mds and the eco light comes on whenever I drive lightly-some say there is no connection-but yes I have MDS and would like my doctor to give my truck a prescription to get it out!

Just a thought, is it possible it's been tuned by the previous owner with MDS shut off?

It's junk. Just another emissions gimmick where things go horribly wrong. My opinion is if you want a 4 cylinder you buy one don't try to make a V8 one. I've had my mds disabled for a year and I noticed zero difference in fuel economy whatsoever. I recently had an mds lifter eat the cam i did non mds lifters and performance cam. Now I shouldn't have any problems.

It doesn't bother me as much as it does others, but yeah, it really does little to nothing! Someone on here was measuring fuel that went into each injector & when MDS kicked in, the four running injectors nearly doubled their fuel intake when it switched over. Not enough fuel savings to be worth it. Probably not even over the life of the vehicle!

Exactly-it seems to me that 4cylinders are being overworked -it would make sense if it alternated which ones went down-but I dont think it works that way. So we end up with 4 cylinders and plugs etc that have wear that are not equal to the other 4. That doesnt make sense to me. Can someone tell me that is OK?
