Im taking mine off. i see no way of them being a safety item. its my truck and ill do what i want with it.Its for passing safety laws regarding vehicle height.
Lots of people take them off (illegally)
I doubt its ever been an issue. I just know I dont want to be the first case where removing mandatory safety equip violated insurance terms.
It’s a safety item in case of a collision with a much lower profile vehicle than the truck. They “dig into” the vehicle to hopefully prevent you from riding over the top of the compartment the driver is sitting in.Im taking mine off. i see no way of them being a safety item. its my truck and ill do what i want with it.
So dont hit my head on them every time im under the truck. lolI guess the question is- what can be gained by removing them?
It’s not a guess. They are compatibility brackets. https://www.nhtsa.gov/sites/nhtsa.dot.gov/files/811293.pdfSeeing as I have a 2019 3500 here in the shop right now and it does not have the brackets/mounts I'm not quite sure I buy the impact crash reason. This is a dealer vehicle, still has the window sticker in it. I would not think the brackets are dealer installed item if its a safey reason. I suppose the 3500s might be in a high enough weight class that it isn't a requirement?
I had always heard they were snow plow mounts, but it doesn't snow here so whatever. They do make some nice lift points for the front though.
