I used this 5 way adapter, and it mated to the Opt7 perfect.
I just crimped a bullet connector to the white wire and plugged it into the 5th wire of the 5 way.
Plug & Play all the way.

Ditto. Easy and looks great

Ah OK...so the offset in the plugs match. I was afraid the 5 pin offset would be different from the Opt7's wiring. But if they line up and just add the 5th wire to the end connection, no problem!! Thanks!

I haven't had a chance to open my Opt7 yet...I also got a bad case of gout in my right hand for Christmas! Not fun!! As soon as I heal up, I will tackle this little project!

when you’re shopping for the Bullet connector bring the harness with you to find the right size one.

How does the tire jack grommet come off? Just pop out or do I have to bust it to get it off? Going to finally install my light today since it is almost 70 deg out!

The two locking tabs are at the top and bottom of the grommet.
They need to be compressed (pushed) inward, and then the grommet can be removed.
They are pretty stiff, and require quite a bit of pressure.

Hard wired my Op7. Clips were in the kit and it cost just a little electrical tape. Also used the drill brackets instead of peeling the 3m tape. I could transfer it in the future and could remove it in about 15 minutes.

Just more FYI, for magnents, i used these from Harbor Freight, 2 of them, and they fit perfectly and wont budge unless you need it to. https://www.harborfreight.com/18-in-magnetic-tool-holder-60433.html Installed on each end, only removing adhesive tape just enough for the back side of the magnets. Leaves plenty of room to get to spare tire hole, and if ya need to remove it, easily done also.

The only thing I don't like is the bit of lag when you hit the brakes...but nothing you can do about that.

I ended up getting the Opt7 for Christmas...I also got 1 each of the 4 pin and a 5 pin Curt T-Harnesses. Problem is, the Opt7 4 pin harness won't plug into the 5 pin T-Harness so I either need to use the 4 pin T-Harness and splice into the reverse wire on the harness or cut the 4 pin connector off the Opt7 and solder in a 5 pin trailer side connector to work with the 5 pin T-Harness. It's definitely not plug and play either way but still better that cutting into the truck reverse light wire...I do not want to do that. I think I will cut the 4 pin off the Opt7 but I am sure that that will void the warranty....? But making it plug and play is a lot easier if it does decide to die in a year or two.
No use the 5pin t harness, the 4pin from opt7 will plug into 5 pin curt harness with the reverse pin exposed. then crimp yellow bullet terminal to opt7 reverse wire and plug the terminal into reverse wire of 5 pin t-harness

I believe there is a slight lag with the directional lights as well with the Opt7.

That’s because of the sequential logic controller input lag with the turn signals, my $30 ebay special is instantaneous with truck/trailer lighting.

That slight delay may actually be an advantage.
If someone is not looking at your brake lights when they come on, they may catch the OPT7 light when they come on.

RodeoGeorge

I was thinking that too, and in fact I think our ambulances around here have lights like that. Super bright but come on in two stages. The brightness alone on those things should be enough to get your attention when you are behind them, but the stages are certainly eye catching too.

Gents,

Thanks for all your input. I purchased the OPT7 tailgate LED and the Curt 5 pin wiring harness. Hopefully it wont interfere with the backup sensors, etc.

I have had mine installed for a few days and no issues with F/R park sense or BLIS.
