It sounds like this on a restart - if it was only run for a short period the time before, like pulling it out of the garage & shutting off in driveway. Any other time it sounds good. Anybody else have this? I searched but couldn't find anything.

I believe this is a very common problem, I have it, actually after i switched to Redline(which made other noises go away) this is the only one that remains. It only happens if i crank and move the truck a little, then shut off. If i go down the highway a bit, never does it.

Huge topic with guys on here, whole threads dedicated to it. ITs called HEMI TICK. Synthetic Oil thread dedicated to fixing it or really helping with it.

Yea. Lifter ticking from lack of oil most likely. Hydraulic lifters have to build pressure. It’s hard on the hemis to start them for short periods. Sometimes a different oil and oil filter combination helps. What oil and filter are on your vehicle?

If it is hemi tick, look at the success % of using redline 5w30. There is very real science behind this formula, not hype.

Try and post a youtube with sound, most of us can tell you if it is hemi tick.

Sure sounds horrible - but goes away after a few seconds.
Where do you guys get redline at?

Anybody give it a quick rev before shut off in a situation like a short move? Not sure if that would make a difference?

31k on it. Valvoline full syn I used last change. Mopar or Fram filter.

Nick@GotExhaust contact him, on here, basically 5w30 with RP filter is commonly the fix. Some hate on us for it but they must have plenty of money to replace the engine. Anyway the heavier weight doesn't hurt the MDS and the only issue may be warranty if its found out your on another viscosity than recommended by FCA. But i'm not concerned with that as much as i am with my engine. Thats the long and short of it.

nick at got exhaust has a package for hemi pretty cheap, but check amazon as well. Why I posted that thread, it was many different ram member's experience with redline, random guys time and time again it quiets the hemi, but I ask for a video because there are two causes of hemi tick, one lifters and the other exhaust bolts, if it is bolts no oil will help. So far the results are over 60% kill their tick completely with redline, but in 90% is makes the tick better as in quieter.

Only happens if I do a short run on it - which I rarely do. Read some other guys had it happen - but no replies on why. Is it mechanical or a Cpu type of issue??

Want to figure it out. Sounds like a pile starting like that.

Get audio on what happens, maybe it isn't hemi tick? We need to hear it. You have a webcam on device? Youtube makes it easy to upload.

Thanks!
Don't they say 5w30 as an option anyway?

This sounds more like exhaust leak - but not sure. Only time ever does it is on a restart - if I move it for a short distance & shut it down. Mostly cold starts I think also.?

Will try to get it to repeat & get audio.

I believe? If 5w-20 isn't available, i'm sure someone will beat me to it, but going to my owners manual to see.
Thought I read for summer or towing ...but that might have been for the wife's Jeep GC.

What's the theory behind that?

I don't know the thicker oil, stays in or on the lifters instead of draining off. The moly, Don't care. If i can buy anything that fixes my problem by pouring it in the oil cap hole. I'm thrilled.

Let the others (scientists do the thinking).

I have this issue, I think many if not all do have it as well.

In my case changing to srt oil filter seems to prevent it from happening. It did happen with stock and both size rp filters, but the srt filter is still quiet.
