My truck is being sketchy with the battery, after a replacement 6 months ago, I am considering an upgrade to help with cold starting.

Has anyone put a group 31 battery into a 4th gen truck?

Basically I am trying to find if longer battery cables are needed? and what hold down they used.

Yes, I am looking at the group 31 as the group 34/78 are only 650-800 CCA and the group 31 is 900+
The group 31 batteries are about 2" taller, but within an inch of other dimensions.

I think you'd be better off just buying a high quality battery... That or battery blankets go a long way with helping cold performance.
I'm still on the stock battery, 160k miles and it's fired right up the past few mornings at -40°
The bearings in my fan really aren't enjoying the cold by the sounds they're making at startup but the battery isn't giving me any grief.

I am at almost a year and just over 18k miles and I am on OEM battery #2. Issue has returned and I am considering upgrading to a higher quality brand name battery with more CCA.

You might want to look into a quality AGM battery in the 94R. That would fit with no modifications.

Heated battery blanket and a block heater. I installed both and it makes a WORLD of difference.

Regardless or the battery type, cold weather KILLS their performance by a huge percentage.....so keep it warm.
