My husband and I are looking to buy a 2020 3500 or Ford 350. We prefer the Dodge but the accelerator pedal is so far to the right that my husband can't center his foot over the pedal. Even my foot literally rubs on the right side. The Ford has plenty of room to the right of the pedal for not just his boot to fit but an extra inch or two. We plan to be hauling cross country so this foot position thing is going to get really frustrating and uncomfortable.

Does anyone have any solutions to suggest?

I've never noticed that with my truck and haven't heard anyone else mention it. Maybe it's something with the newer models? I tend to prefer things a bit to the right anyway :)

seems like cruise control would be worth more than gold for cross country

No problems in my 2015 1500, but I do have this problem in my wifes Journey especially when I'm wearing boots. I assume the design is starting to trend toward people that wear flip flops, sandals, or a cute pair of high heels. Did it have the center console? My truck does not.

It is a little to the right but has never caused me any issue even with full days on the road.

Comfortable shoes and cruise control!

It did not have the center console, which helps with the cramped feeling at the knees but it was strange how close it was on the right at the gas pedal. I could not have my foot vertical, the heel had to be toward the center with the toe to the right. I did find a few other complains online similar to ours. On longer trips it gets really uncomfortable for some people. It's really interesting how most people aren't bothered (aren't even affected) and it was something I noticed to be a problem immediately. I saw more complaints online about the bulge into the passenger footwell, which did put even me at 5'3" with my feet to the right and not able to sit feet flat straight in front of me.

My husband is a fan of cruise control but might not be when we are hauling a 12,000 lb trailer. I'm going to try to find one of the lower trim models with no carpet to see if that helps. I really don't like the Ford as much. I'm sure it's fine and will do the job (and has a more comfortable seat) but the set up of inputs/interior is so much better in the Dodge.

What I really could use is some kind of pedal extender to make the gas pedal surface area bigger but that doesn't appear to exist and maybe for good reason!

The all weather floor mats definitely make that seam stick out, but it’s still there with the rubber floor.

You wouldn’t happen to be one of those “two feet” drivers? What’s natural to me (and most people I know) is to have my heel resting on the floor between the brake and gas pedal, so it can be the pivot point between the two. What you’re describing, having heel and foot vertical directly over the gas pedal, would seem cumbersome to have to move the entire foot over to the brake pedal. I don’t know, I just haven’t come across any vehicle, Rams included, where I’ve given a thought to the pedal position.

No neither of us is a two foot driver. My mom is and I learned early that it wasn't the best way to drive!

I do have to lift my foot off the gas to use the brake. For both of us it is very uncomfortable to have your leg rotated out to swing your toe to the right to reach the gas and then only your toe is on the gas pedal. It clearly is not a problem for most people since they make plenty of trucks and SUVs this way. I just wish there was a solution for the minority who really can't drive with this position.

Hmmm. Maybe you could have a custom pedal adapter made, that mounted directly to the current pedal but was wider (to the driver side more).

Seems like a nit picky type problem, yet at the same time I could see it being a real pain in the ass too! Never once heard of this issue before!

As others stated, on cross country trips, comfy shoes and cruise control seem like the answer here. This doesn't seem like an issue that ranks high in the decision making tree when comparing 2 different trucks ... not to me anyways ... gas pedal extensions are available if you look. Here is a random pic of one.gas pedal.jpg

I have the same issue with my 2020. Took it to the dealer and they stated there is a vent under the carpet that pushes it out close to the pedal. If the carpet was flat against the floor the pedal location would not be an issue. He stated he checked the rest of trucks on the lot and they were all the same.

My 14 wide men's show doesn't seem to notice any gas pedal issues on my 2020 3500 Tradesman. I have the jump seat and not a center console.

Why not just move the pedal over to the left?
It is attached somehow to the floor - either drill new holes or have an offset adapter plate made.

I wonder if it’s different for trucks with full center consoles versus the front bench seat? My truck is a Bighorn and has the bench seat, no issues with the pedals. Most comfortable vehicle I’ve ever owned.

I just measured my gas pedal and I have an 1 1/2" clearance from the edge of the pedal to the carpet. I have a Ram 2500 with the 6.4 Hemi with center console and adjustable pedals.
