My Wife did the SAME **** to me with her 2017 Lexus RX 350 !!!
Only thing is that she backed into my big ass 2020 Freightliner Cascadia in the driveway !!!
I’ve parked in the same spot for 5 years now !
She bought the Lexus because it has a backup camera !!!
No damage to her SUV, but a $4000 dent on my stainless steel bumper !!!
Will probably claim that as a deer impact before lease is up !

Hey Tim Garceau,
Do you know how much THAT FRONT BUMPER COSTS ??? Well over $1000 not including labor !!! Look on eBay at the used bumpers with worse damage than this one selling for $400 and up !!!
Being a NEW TRUCK, you’re nuts to accept a $100 for $1000+ worth of damages !
Careful or you'll be accused of being a concrete cowboy too!! :favorites13:

Sucks having a steel bumper cover doesn’t it. Rusts and costs an arm and leg to fix.

Little bit of putty and some paint for the plastic ones. :893Chainsaw-Smilie- Or just replace it with an unpainted one, because truck

Ahhhh, wife stories...... Mine backed out of the garage with the hatchback in her SUV (which contains the camera) up.... scraped along the underside of the garage door and left a big crease/dent in the less than year old vehicle!!

I still can't figure out where she was looking since had she been turned around it would have been clear the hatchback was up.... and the picture on the 8" screen from the camera would have been of the underside of the garage door!! Sore subject around our house :)

Carfax generally only works off of DMV records. At least that's the root of their whole, "Trillion Dollar Guarantee." The fine print says if they miss a "discoverable" event they'll pay up. They define "discoverable" as public record which pretty much means DMV.

I'm not sure how other states work but here in Oregon you only need to report if it's more than a couple thousand dollars of damage so OP's situation wouldn't qualify. Some insurance companies may also report but I don't believe there is a requirement.

About 10 years ago my (at the time) business partner got drunk and drove his new-ish truck into a tree. Single vehicle accident. Somehow drove it home and called the insurance company the next day. Had it towed in and repaired to the tune of $15,000. Not a whiff of the event on Carfax.... kind of made me lose faith in the whole thing. Farmer's was our insurance at the time and they said it's not, "their policy" to report to DMV or Carfax.

I think Carfax and similar outfits have some value to learn about a used vehicle but I would NEVER use it as assurance that the vehicle has never had things happen.
I have a good one.... Someone rear ends me, clearly they're at fault but I had wife and kids in truck at the time. Called state police (we were on entrance ramp to highway).

3 hours later !! They show up. No injuries but I wanted them to see everything.

Truck gets fixed to the tune of $3k.

Check Carfax now and it shows my accident as structural/frame damage. Wtf?

Needed a new bumper and a little paint work. Nothing frame related other than the shop taking measurements to make sure it wasn't bent (it was not).

So yeah I'll be screwed by Carfax if I sell my truck...

Sitting in the drive through and I got backed into... not even 200 miles on the clock. Doesn’t look like much but the other car looks like someone took a 10# maul to it.

Insurance claim has been filed with their insurance. The adjuster will be reviewing the pics I sent and issuing an initial estimate.

I’ll be taking it to the dealer to repair as it’s not even a week old. New parts will be used.

Damnit....
I share a similar painful experience. I had my truck 2 days, stopped at gas station, and some #/n!b&$# nailed bed side in front of gas fill door. Huge crease, about a foot long running diagonally. Took to an awesome shop near me, they did a fantastic job knocking it back out. They spent almost a whole day on it, very slight wave if you look just right and have my eyes on it, but no one else sees it. Good luck, and it will pass.

It always boggles my mind when insurance companies spec using used parts. Yes the parts are cheaper is the only thing they see, they totally overlook the added cost of sourcing something used & then the additional prep for a used part.
We had a big hail storm around Chicago last May, they spec used parts on one of my vehicles. When all was said & done I point out to the adjuster it is cheaper to go with a brand new part. He looked at me like the RCA dog.

I’ve got the shop lined up and am waiting on the check from the insurance company. The shop is going to tear down the front, take measurements, etc to make sure there’s not hidden damage. There’s a scratch on my tow hook so they’re going to write to replace it as it was brand new when hit.

We will see how it goes this week.

Any accident or fender bender, first call the cops and then the insurance company. Then take photos all around. OP should be fine and in 3 months from now you'll be laughing at the long gone dented bumper.

You're just blowing hot air LOL...judging by how the truck in your sig looks, you aren't using/treating that thing "like a truck". I'm sure you're out there every Sunday detailing it with the finest micro-fiber towels and most expensive car products you can find. You're fooling no one.

When I bought my truck I was getting a few accessories for it like the hitch, side steps and a spray in box liner. Sales guy says give me a two days to get the truck ready and the accessories installed. At the end of the second day he calls me and says....there is a problem. One of the lot guys was driving another vehicle and smashed into my parked new truck. Damage in the multi thousands. They ended up giving me another truck they had in stock that was identical....One of the few good things about buying from a huge dealer is that they had 600+ trucks in stock. I was treated OK and they tossed in a free bed cover but about two weeks later I was at the dealer and I see the original truck on the lot for sale (the VIN number is one off from my current truck) and there is nothing on the truck to say anything about the damages it had suffered. I wonder who got that truck!

Gotta love dumb people who don't pay attention! Worst parts are that the new parts will be used. Sorry to hear man

The new parts will be NEW. Insurance companies will not use after market or used parts to repair a vehicle.

If it was an older truck with 30 or so thousand miles on it, that would be different. I speak from experience.

Cheers

I also had a fender bender, not my fault. All states regulate insurance companies, and my state allows the person being made whole to choose the repair shop and parts. The insurance companies try to steer you to their favorite crap parts and cheap fix shops, but you have rights. I’ll bet your state has a legal section in the attorney general’s office that would be happy to answer your questions. Also, many personal injury attorney groups do not charge you for an initial consultation. Many are very happy to give you a list of your rights, including your rights to have your vehicle repaired.
In my case, the front bumper needed replacement. I found out the cost of a custom solid metal bumper was cheaper than the factory one. The insurance company was on the hook for $$ so saving them to $ made sense. The fix was allowed. Do not let the insurance company drive your bus.
Lastly, someone on this thread was very correct. Your vehicle may loose value due to the damage. Other damage; broken shackles, bolts, alignment problems,,, the list goes on may arise later or not be noticed for some miles. True, a little backup fender bender. But you have rights.

Gets treated like the 4x4 muscle sedan it is, except I commute 400 miles every week through all 4 seasons!

Just an iPhone 7 and a little cropping from where it gets parked every night... :drunk:

You guys crack me up... Yes, it's a truck and it will be used like one. It will get scuffed, scratched, dented and put through what would kill a lesser Ford or GM product...

I feel for all you Guys... A few years back I watched a few Youtube videos' of people brake checking Truckers. Got me thinking... Almost all Truckers have Dash Cameras installed. Some only front facing, others front and rear facing. Today there are lots of automobile videos having Dash Cameras also. They are a must in today's world. Amazon and EBay list hundreds of these Dash Cameras. Fairly inexpensive too. Law Enforcement Officials, Insurance Companies, Lawyers and Judges just love these videos. They saved me big bucks twice. Once from a Walmart parking lot hit and run, and again from a sideswipe at a red light stop. Both times the dash camera caught not only the License Plate Numbers, but the Guilty parties faces! The local City Police and the Sheriff's Department's readly caught the guilty parties. Of course they both tried to blame me... But I had the video evidence... Their Insurance company's paid for everything!!! What a life saver...

I totally agree- I have 2 dashcam ponys- One on windshield and one on back window. They are patched together with a splitter and plugged into the rear of the center storage bin. All wires hidden under floor mats etc. Basically all you see is the unit on a suction cup. Looks cool at night seeing these little tv screens lit up. 4yrs and they still record everything. If I dont need them for evidence that is great-sometimes I will take the sd card out just enjoy one of my jpurneys on the laptop. Great piece of mind and only cost me $150 for the pair
$15 for the splitter.DSC00559.JPG
