I sense a problem.

82k 2015 6.4 check engine light. I dropped it off at the dealer, don’t judge, and it is bank one sensor one. It is taking days to get one. I did the usual online tour of the parts houses. I saw out of stocks for sensors or no listings for bank 1 sensor 1. This is the first real problem I’ve had since new so I can’t complain too much. I do wonder about the shortage of O2 sensors. Anybody else have a similar problem?

Man it seems like I see a lot of threads on here where parts are out of stock. Thermostats were a big one a while back.

I went through a series of transmission problems (under warranty) a while back and getting parts in a timely manner was always a HUGE problem (long before all this Covid-19 crap). There's no doubt that you get more for your money with Ram vs. Ford or Chevy/GMC and I suspect one way they save money is by not sitting on a bunch of parts inventory.

In contrast over the last 15 years before my Ram I owned both Ford and Chevy/GMC trucks and rather obscure parts could be located and delivered in hours and I was back on the road. Overall service and repair with Ram is a large step below the others but I am somewhat okay with it considering the overall value with Ram.

RAM is fixed. The first sensor to come in was the wrong one. Second one was correct. Very expensive I’m thinking, but at least oem parts. Hoping for the best. The dealership looked busy. Lots of furrowed brows above masks to be seen.

Glad to hear they got you back up and running.
LOL...furrowed brows above masks....an unfortunate sign of the times....I think the masks are unfortunately here to stay for awhile.

Oxygen (aka Lambda) sensors are considered "wear items" on many gas engines these days. They will likely need to be replaced multiple times within the lifespan of the vehicle just like plugs and wires every 100k. Some may not fail to the point to throw a code and will just give the ECM false readings making the engine not run at peak efficiency/performance. It is generally gradual decline in efficiency/performance so most owners cannot tell.

Understand, South Texan. I’m an old geezer and easily remember plugs, points and condenser every 7,000 miles. Technology although expensive, is magic.

theres a million reasons why parts can be out of stock. the lamen usually thinks its because the part is always breaking but im sure thats rarely the case. i remember people saying thermos were out of stock but dealer qauter mile down street from me had one. its a shame they dont sell the oring seperate as thats the only piece i needed
