Has anybody found a conversion to add a shoulder harness to the front middle seat on a 40/20/40 split bench. I bought my 2018 Ram 3500 to take my family of 6 camping but didn't realize until I got home that the middle seat just has a lap belt and I did not find any tether strap either. I am sure there is a conversion or a work around but hoping someone here has already done it.

I was hoping to find someone who had done a modification or has created a jump seat that is like this that Ford has in some of their super duty's

Very few companies want anything to do with modifying safety equipment like seatbelts for liability reasons. I don’t think what you’re looking for exists. There’s nothing to stop the seat from folding forward in a collision, so the seat itself isn’t a proper mounting point, making the seat as an anchor impossible. There is nowhere on the roof to mount it, so unless you put some kind of lateral bar installed across the back of the seats to mount a racing harness to (like the one you linked), you’ll either need to live with what you got and abandon your project, or trade it for a Ford.

Understood, just do not want to go that route if I do not have to

So where is the latch that releases that middle seat-back for when you want to fold it down to use as a armrest?

I understand your concern about not having somebody in a proper seatbelt in that front middle seat like that but wherever the latch is that releases it for it to come down – which it would have to have one because just like the other guy posted, unless ram trucks decides to do that they would have to make some way that would keep that center consul portion back in the even of a crash because there’s no other way to anchor the top of that shoulder strap. That, and I’m not digging the head rest in front like that when the seat back is seat back is down for armrest mode.

But what gets me is that if it’s just so important for that center front seat to have a complete seatbelt then why doesn’t anybody else come up with virtually the same system so that all trucks with the split bench come with a full belt?

My guess is having just the lap belt is legal there. I would not want a baby seat next to me there, I think it would be tight. I would put the baby seat in the back, and an adult up front. Those seats are so big nowadays.
The front airbags might be an issue as well. I would think Ram would not want a baby seat up there, and Ram and the regulators must feel that just the lap belt is OK, or it would not be there.

I have had three kids car seats across the back of my truck, they fit fine. Three grandkids all next to each other resulted in a big time giggle fest for sure.

I am just trying to figure it all out. The issue I see with anybody in the front seat with just a lap belt is that if I hit the breaks or God for bid have a accident the person in the middle could smash their head into the dash as nothing is holding them back to the seat. I am looking at trying to put an anchor mount under the middle read where the speaker goes just to hold back the persons/kids shoulders.

I have 4 kids so I am already 3 across in the back with car seats.

It actually looks like the 2019 ram Tradesmen has a jump seat with at shoulder strap. Trying to see if I can find one to purchase.

Here is the image I found it is off of the 2019 and it appears to only be in the tradesman. I am waiting to see what the dimensions are to see how close of a fit it actually would be.

The latch is visible in the pic, in my 2011 f150, you had to squeeze the latch to rise out lower the seat/console. dcd84b0ef52fbbe5497ef23ef530e019.jpg

Apparently you can get them in a Laramie as well. I looked on CarGurus and found a truck with that style of seat. Here is the VIN: 1C6SRFJT0LN170495

Here are the images of the seat which looks similar to the Ford seat. The last image was found with a Google search.

As I said I had thought about it, shared link just for example of harness, but problem is mounting. Can't mount on roof as not strong enough and fails to protect in a rollover. Mounting point on floor requires additional work on seat to allow proper alignment from floor to shoulder to lap belt area. Best bet if really wanted is to work with a race shop. Good luck.

Did you not look at the images above? Those are OEM seats and the shoulder belt isn't attached to the ceiling. Someone will need to investigate if they'll work in a 2018. Probably aren't plug and play but may be able to adjust the mounting brackets.

Definitely worth looking into at a dealership or through Benny.

Yes it would be replacing my current jump seat with the new version.

Before you get excited and all “look what I found”, that interior is from a DT 1500, and won’t fit in his 2018 any more than the seat from the F series super duty will. It’s a completely different truck.

Correct there will be some modifications that will need to take place.
