I hope it’s ok to post here as I’m not a true PW owner but I’m looking to add the leitner designs ACS rack and a rooftop tent to my ‘18 2500 w/6.4 hemi. I figgered this would be the most likely place to find someone who has a roof top tent mounted on a rack that extends above the cab.
I’m curious if you have noticed any level of wind noise, excessive drag or loss of MPG, etc. Essentially any downsides? I need my tent above the height of the cab because I’ll be adding a decked system and need all the space I can get back there.

I recently installed one my PW. I went with Yakima OverhaulHD racks, which are height adjustable so you can fine tune them to your liking. I'll say I did notice the additional weight up high, but only slightly and I have the softer PW suspension. Haven't noticed a big hit in mileage or wind noise.

Would the decked system still be possible with that rack? Doesn’t it extend down into the bed when powered?

The OverHaul racks do not penetrate into the bed space aside from any clamps that attach to the bed rails. I have a Retrax tonneau cover and my particular model cover has provisions to work with my racks if you order a specific adapter from Yakima to mount the racks to the cover. In your apllication with the Decked system you would use Yakima's standard mounting hardware. For reference in those photos my racks are pretty much all the way down. Yakima also makes and "OutPost" rack that sits lower but is non adjustable.

I built a rack to keep everything below the roofline. The brush don’t beat it up either. Sold this rack though making new one. My buddy wheels his above the roofline and he does notice it when he takes it off. Best bet is if above the cab imo make it easy to remove so you don’t have to have it on all the time.

Thanks for the info. That’s probably the route I’m gonna go. Been trying to find the lightest RTT but I really like the hard shell roofnest falcon xl for the low profile of about 6inches. I like the look and less drag of the low mount racks but I use my bed way too much for that and hauling kayaks with our TT I need the above the roof rack

Like I said in the OP, I don’t have a true PW, just a standard CC with the stiffer springs. When you say it impacts the dynamics do you mean making it feel top heavy? If so I think I could deal with it cause this thing is stiff

Yes, it definitely makes the truck roll and sway more. It’s not terrible - but there are definitely some sections of highway I can’t bomb down at 80mph+ anymore. But your stiffer springs and bars should certainly help.

Nice rig. Looking forward to getting my kids outdoors more. ****** me off to take our 30 ft travel trailer out just to watch the kids sit inside watching tv.

Which awning do you have?

I think I’ll just pitch a tent the 1-2 times every 3 yrs it’s below 90 degrees here in the south and We go camping, rest of the time I’ll tow the trailer with the comforts!! Lol!

I’ve considered this option as well. There’s just something very cool about a RTT

I have an ARB Simpson III atop our Jeep. Had it up there about four years now. No "top heavy" feeling driving, even dissconnected. It does create a bit more drag on my Jeep, with it's already poor aerodynamics but then that isn't why I bought it.

If you're thinking of installing a RTT I recommend mounting it high enough to make use of an annex underneath.
