That's exactly what it acted like. It wasjke a worse version of the 44-44.
The NV246 has me intrigued tho as it would seemingly provide the best of both worlds. Locked in "lock" and auto in "auto"

FWIW the AllDataDIY subscription for my 2017 RAM 1500 shows 3 xfer cases in the Transfer Case section:

BW 44-44
BW 44-45
NV243 (not 246)

But I dont think the 243 has an auto setting, whereas the 246 *might*...its hard to find info because it seems like its an older unit and was used in Ford and GM as well with slightly different features in each.

This may be a dumb question but I'm curious, would there ever be a situation where the dealership would reset your alfa OBD modifications unknowingly. For instance during a recall could they reset your truck back to the 44-44 settings?

If the recall or work has them re-flash the BCM, I could see it happening.

Yes, if the BCM requires flashing for whatever recall they are doing, it could happen.

The "real" way of adding things after factory build is to have the dealer add the feature(s) to your VIN in the DealerConnect system, which is what is used to re-flash the BCM if it is ever necessary. The problem with that is the dealer is limited to adding features that were only available for your truck and trim level. So, they most likely will not be able to add the 44-45 xfer case to a Big Horn (or higher) trim, because it was never available that way from the factory.

I dont think the truck "breaks" if you have a 44-45 in it, but with the 44-44 settings in the BCM. 4WD might have issues, but if you swapped a 44-45 in, chances are you know that you'll need to change the BCM settings again before using 4WD.

I would guess the front differential disconnect locked so you could not spin the driveline but the electric motor on the T case did not shift the T case into 4 hi. Mechanically locking T cases do not slip unless not shifted fully into lock because of somthing like a linkage misadjustment. In that case if slipping it would make a sound like gears grinding or some loud clunking as the coarse splines or dogs tried to engage.

I just finished my install of the transfer case just waiting on the 3 button switch to show up just wanted to verify if I can still use the 4 button switch till in shows up? I've seen a couple of posts saying it works.

I believe others have had the 4 button switch work for them. Just make sure you have the AlfaOBD changes made first.

Would this switch from a 44-44 to 44-45 work on a 2011 Ram 1500 5.7 Sport? I need a new t case as mine just started making some ridiculous noises earlier today. Searched about this swap and found it here on the forum.

I believe the answer is yes, but I'm not sure about the Alfaobd end of it...

Hmm, now from the 44-45s I have saw searching around for all lost them for the 3.6L. Is this standard for the 44-45 TC, 3.6L and not a 5.7? I have no clue about these TCs. Thanks for the direction as well. I may have to end up with the clutches that I hate with a passion. I already replaced the clutches in my current TC.

As I understand it, the 44-45 is the "base" tcase and the 44-44 is the "premium" tcase, which engine it's equipped with doesn't make a difference. Basically they put the 44-45 on base model trucks and the 44-44 on the higher trimmed trucks except for the Rebel which got the 44-45.

The only thing you might want to check in is if the 44-45 electrical connections are different than the 2011 & 2012 trucks vs the 2013-2018 trucks...

The BW44-44 is a Full-time transfer case(Auto 4x4) which as you know utilizes a clutch to transfer power to the front wheels. The BW44-45 is a Part-time time transfer case that doesn't have the "clutch" to drive the front axle.
It shouldn't matter which engine it was on, just which transmission.

Worked for me. Used a 44-45 from a 2015 on my 2012. No issues at all.

since the snow, today I found the 4WD lock and 4WD low is not working of my RAM1500 2013 HEMI 5.7, no any alarm, I already bought a ELM327 USB OBD2 tool and download the AlfaOBD 2.2.4.0 (registered), tomorrow I will drive to a service shop to check what is happened, maybe this is why the precious 5 owner sell the truck. if possibe, I will replace the 44-44 to 44-45.
