Is this speculation or did you confirm this? I am considering this for my kids, but I usually have the back windows locked out.

I still think it is an awesome mod and easy to do. Plus this way you can mess with the kids lol.

Will be adding the USB charging ports when I replace all 6 of the speakers with the Rockford Fosgates tomorrow, if the weather is good. Supposed to actually freeze tonight.
And I do love all the endless mods I find here! And all the help when needed.

You know what is really irritating? This looks such an easy and awesome mod.

BUT! I know, with 100% certainty, that my attempt would include at least 2 stripped screws, a broken plastic tab somewhere, a wire cut that is not supposed to be cut, a door panel that didn't quite fit right and thus rattles every time I hit a bump, and at least 3 or 4 extra screws and fittings that I shrug my shoulders at and think "huh, wonder where those came from".

I would finish the mod dirty, sweating, cussing, and guaranteed that every time I plug a phone in to charge I would get the "Weak Charging Detected" warning.

Great video though! Very well done!
Come on dude...give yourself a little credit. If you can drive and operate the bells and whistles our rigs offer you can do this mod. The video made it idiot proof!

Anyone though of adding some USB ports on your console? Circled areas. Wonder if enough space to do so? Piggy back of 12v cigarette lighter. Wanting to add one USB and one cigarette lighter for goodies

Any other place inside the doors that you can tap into to get the power since connecting this way you not have power if you disable the rear windows?

I tested all the wires and my truck didn’t have any wires other than for the windows. You can choose to have the plug hot when the windows are locked or unlocked. You could maybe tap both wires and use some diodes to keep it from back feeding, I’m not sure about that though.

You could always run a dedicated power wire into the door. I did that for my mirrors lights to be running lights.

It is a great mod and I am about to do it again on my new truck.

I added 2 ports to the back of my center console. Each port has 3 USB. I tied into the 12v cigarette lighter spot in the back. You could do the same. Consider if you want always on, or switched power though. The cigarette port is switched.

I have those already ... I want some in the back either the doors or by the foot vents .. I just need to figure out how to wire them up

Just did this on the rear doors of my 2020 Classic Tradesman. Easy mod.

Installed USB lighted dual-port modules w/QC 3.0 capability and an ON-OFF switch.

Even though they have a power switch I still used the wire on the window switch that is controlled by the key to avoid parasitic drain.

Decided to tackle this mod. I didn’t wanna splice into the factory wiring, so far on all the mods I have done I have been able to avoid splicing into anything, so I’m working on a plug and play harness. Anyway, I’m not done yet but I did test out the USB port today and works great. Also love the fact that if you engage the window lock it kills power to the USB port. I can use that as leverage when my kids aren’t behaving!

you have to buy a minimum quantity of 20 each which ends up being well over $100. Not very economical when you add in all the other parts and the USB ports. I’m thinking about possibly making a few kits of these to sell but we’ll see.
