What is the process for getting warranty for a Canadian Ram in the US

Hello,
I purchased a 2017 ram 1500 Laramie with 34k miles. What is the process for transferring the warranty to the US and is an extended warranty available? Thank you in advance.

Me and my son both got Canadian Rams (both 2018's). I got mine first and called Ram and dealers etc. You have to have at least 15,000km's on it first then have a dealer log into Dealer Connect and enter your info. For my sons I just called the local dealer and read the VIN and 5 minutes later it was done. Mine was a longer process because I didn't know what to do so spent a couple of weeks making calls.

I would start by calling your local dealer. My one dealer told me they couldn't do it (more like they just didn't know how) so I tried another who said they had done this before. So if you get one unsure or saying they can't then try another one. But it has to be done in Dealer Connect.

That is the process for news... for used they are considered grey market vehicles and dont have a warranty. So to clarify if you purchased it used as a canadian registered vehicle and then try to register it in the US you will lose any warranty you may have had. This does not apply to new. You can add an extended warranty to it, though it does require some manual work to get the vin to work.

Not true. Mine and my sons were both used and we both got our warranties transferred. My son has never had any warranty work done on his and his warranty has expired now wiht 70,000 miles on it but I had my 8.4 touchscreen replaced under warranty on mine. Both trucks came from an auction in MI and the trucks were from a fleet lease company in Canada. Mine had 8000 on it and my sons had 6000 on it when we got them.

There are 2 codes. can't remember the numbers exactly but one was like 596 and one was like 598. One could be transferred and the other couldn't. Not sure what the differences were but ours were both the right codes.

When I bought my used 14 Sport in Mi from Canada in 2015, I was told there was no warranty. They were right, when I checked it didn't have one but the folks I contacted said some fleet vehicles could be transferred but mine (And the majority returned) could not.

It pays to check as I did but the deal was so screaming good that I bought it anyway.

I'd check with the dealer as previously suggested and then see if you could buy an extended warranty from one of the low priced Mopar Dealers like Ziegler. That should answer your questions about warranties. If they won't extend the warranty, try your insurance company or a third party like Fidelity. I bought a warranty from Fidelity to cover the 14 because the Chevy dealer I bought the Ram from was a Fidelity service center and they said they could repair without issues with Fidelity. I did get about 20% of the warranty cost back from Fidelity when I sold the truck 4 years later. I didn't need the warranty during the four year period I had the Ram

You cannot buy a Mopar extended service contract for a canadian truck brought to the US - it is written in their rules.
Now maybe if the factory warranty transfers you can but otherwise you cannot.

Usually stuck with insurance (geico) or 3rd party warranty.

I initially called a 3rd party warranty company and they said no problem. I explained the whole deal and they gave me a quote of about $2200 and I think that was 100,000 mile bumper to bumper but then called Chrysler Cares or something like that and was first told no. Called back again 4 more times and the next 4 all told me I could transfer it. Since it was still in their system as the previous owner they had me email a copy of my drivers license and pink slip. They then told me about the codes then said after I hit 15,000 km's (about 9300 miles) to go to my local dealer and have them change it in Dealer Connect. After I hit my miles I called the dealer and just gave them the VIN over the phone and she said it was done. I called a different dealer a few days later and asked them to pull it up. They couldn't answer whether or not there was a warranty but said there was nothing that mentioned anything about it being Canadian. When my son bought his he left a few days later for a 1500 mile trip to North Dakota so when he hit the mileage limit I called the same dealer and they transferred his over the phone. I didn't call Chrysler at all for his. He never had any warranty work done on his but a couple of months ago I had my touch screen replaced and it was covered. His warranty is up since he is over the mileage now but I'm only t just under 19,000 miles so mine is still good for awhile.

It might have been different for other years. Ours are both 2018's. 2014 may have been different. 2017 might be also. If you already have the truck call your local dealer and ask them to transfer it. If you haven't bought the truck yet then call Chrysler and ask them if it i eligible. If the dealer can do it it will only take them 5 minutes. They ask for the VIN, ask how many miles, then they get a screen asking if you want to transfer the warranty. They asked me and then clicked yes and it was done. Everything in Dealer Connect was in kilometers before that then after that it was all in miles.

Fleet vehicles are a different conversation as a lot of them are purchased in the US and taken to Canada for use which is a loophole. private individual owned Canadian vehicle warranties cannot be transferred to the US.
