High flow water pumps in these race engines, without a cutaway video I’d presume a traditional coil spring design Thermostat would either be fully opened or shut.

There would also another prerequisite in the shutter logic for oil temperature in case the thermostat was in a stuck open state.

Not arguing just asking. Since to invention of the cooling system there were no dampers in them why would it be detrimental with this mod? Air has been moving across the radiator and block for years. I guess we need to talk to the brainiac that designed it.

I believe the thought is that there are other components calibrated to work with this system in place and that may cause unforseen issues...

Would not worry about this change in warm climates, it is for highway aerodynamics and to quicken the time to reach optimal engine fluid temperatures in cold weather operation.

I’ve run AGS delete (completely removed shutters, fashioned my own stop for the motor), 180 thermostat, electric fan with mechanical delete, and DS inTune w/ fan set at 185. No probs so far w/ a few thousand miles. Never been through a NC winter thus far though.

I removed all the grills. I used the kit Jason Dauria sells ($35?). It alters the shutter motor so no CEL. Then I put in a 170* t-stat. Did this years ago. No issues.

How2 video with Jason's kit.

I removed all shutters except top and bottom rows after coolant temps were reaching 220 in May/June. Now, 197 steady operating temp with max reaching 200-201 degrees normal hwy and city driving. Stock thermostat no codes.

You won’t have good heat into the cab until a little longer(Especially if traveling at high speeds) during the winter and will wear out your OEM thermostat faster.

We engineers have all the PFMEA covered, but you guys keep thinking you’re smarter.

Manufacturers design vehicles for a wide spectrum not usage, 48 states builds if you will. They can benefit with some well thought out changes to meet local environments.

Anyone know what the stock t-stat is rated?

Not completely sure of that exact temp but I can tell you... since it got cold out, I have noticed a pattern. It seems to slowly warm to 197, then drop to 195, like that's to shut temp and then back to a steady temp of 197. I would guess a 195 degree threshold.

Just got mine about a week ago ( '18- quad 1500 express 3.6) and what your showing in that pic is what I've noticed on mine as daily regular operations -- Live in NJ, avg temps now are around 50 deg, still with shutters in place.

done couple 170mile round trips of mix hwy and city loops from 103ft elevation to 1,000ft elevation areas, truck ran fine but held the below temp range ...

was planning to remove the center sections in spring for summer but put them back in for winter months as I think I might need em ...

anyone test this during winter months?

So I did mine today , and all I'm sayin is this is the way to go. Top temp(coolant) stayed between 203 and 197 at 65mph with an outside temp of 82*. took my time and did it right, took maybe 45 min to 60min. A big thanks to whomever started this thread.

How is it so far? I did the delete on mine 2 months ago and loving the lower temps. We have had 5-6 nights where it was in the 30's and it heated fine.

I just noticed that I posted this in the V6 section! Anyway, I just finished the delete on my 5.7 fifteen minutes ago. I left one across the top and one across the bottom as posted above. Thanks to everyone for posting this.

If you were a fanatic about driving for distances & saving fuel, you would notice a difference in mileage with the shutters gone

It would be something like 2 gallons in 1,000 miles, i would guess

I tried that AGS delete last year to where all you do is just leave the top and bottom shutters to where everything is still there and it still works but you have no center shutters to actually close off the airflow but in mine, even though it seemed like it did bring the temperatures down a few degrees, it also seemed like my truck took longer to warm up than usual so, I just ended up putting them back in there since winter was just around the corner. And to be honest, I don’t think I even really noticed a change in how well my AC worked with the shutters gone either.

I don’t know, I may try it one more time but the other reason why I just put them all back in there is because I assumed that unless you put a colder thermostat in there that its kind of pointless to do this because since the truck is set to run at a certain temperature and you remove those shutters which just gonna make the engine run a little bit cooler, I figured that the thermostat would be spending a lot more time closed as it’s trying to warm the engine up to the certain temperature that it’s set to. In other words, I just assumed that the more airflow making the engine run cooler would conflict with the thermostat that’s essentially trying to make it run hotter.

Did mine, leaving the top and bottom row. Then left on a 3 day 1500 mile trip. Temps. were in the lower 90's. Leveled out at 199 degrees and stayed there steady on the highway sections with 70-75 MPH running on cruise. Auto interior Temp. control set at 72 degrees the entire trip. My oil Temp. and coolant Temp. was VERY often exactly the same at 199 F. If in steep hills and winding roads at lower speeds the oil temp may rise about 4 degrees over the coolant Temp.
One thing I noticed is that the A/C condenser - Trans. cooler that was pristine clean when I took the grill off is now the burial place of many bugs.
Also have a question. I checked before reassembly to make sure the remaining shutters were operating OK. On start up they will cycle as I have read that they should. However, when they stop after the test cycle they are in what appears to be an open position. I would have thought that they would return to full closed after the test cycle. Anyone have any Info on this?
