Right now Advance Auto has Rotella full synthetic 5w-30 on sale for $10.49 for a 5 quart jug. Normally $41.99. I bought 6 and used discount code k22 and paid $53.37 for 6 jugs of it after tax. Comes out to $1.78 per quart. Act fast, sale might not be very long or supplies are limited.

Might be able to get it delivered for free if you buy 4 of them.

Just my 2 cents.. Pennzoil Ultra synthetic 0/20 for the 6.4 at Walmart for $21.67 for the 5 quart jug. They deliver also and should you buy over $30 the shipping is free.

The 6.4 takes 0W40 not 0W20. I think the 3.6 takes 0W20 the last few years though. Personally I bought around 50 Qts myself of the 5W20 and 5W30 because the price was just to cheap to pass up. Its pretty much all sold out around here now.

You are quite correct about the 0w20,, My brain had a glitch, 0w40 at Amazon, 7 quarts + a real SRT filter for 71.00 delivered...

I picked up some 5w-20 for my wife's car also. Lady at store said she has never sold any until it went on sale and she thinks they will stop selling it once its gone.

Just picked up 10 quarts of full synthetic 5w30 at Costco for $29.99, not on sale. This is the Kirkland brand. When it goes on sale it's $25 for 10 qts.

Question : Why is it that they are selling that 0w / 5w water? What is the Manu's reasoning ? You have to add almost 4 quarts between oil changes? So far I cannot get a viable answer, gas mileage has been the only answer, by one store. Maybe I'm too old, but i think that stuff is way too thin.

Strictly gas mileage and nothing else. I would be running something like 5W30 or even 10W30 in an older high mileage engine for sure myself regardless of the recommendations. Back in the day we ran nothing but 10W40 in American cars and 20W50 in the *** stuff and it worked.

You do realize that 0w30 and 5w30 and 10w30 are all the same weight oil? It's all 30weight oil, exactly same viscosity, not "water". That 0w or 5w is the winter viscosity, it's the cold thickness of the oil, making it easier for your engine to start, and flows faster when cold to lubricate all posts of your engine, where at warm viscosity, it would take longer to to reach all areas. Modifiers in the oil react to temperature change, thickening when warm to make the oil a 30 weight.

Thanks for the info, no I was not aware of that, my understanding was that 10W-30 was ten weight oil with additives that gave it the same lubrication as 30w, so I presumed the same applied to 0w and 5w. If it is all the same then why bother labeling it different.
I understand how it might be usefull in cold weather, however as I stated, I live in Florida, its hot here, and I think the stuff is too thin. Why not just pour 5 quarts of WD 40 in there. If I have to add 4 quarts in between oil changes, then why not have an oil tank next to the gas tank. As I said, I run straight 40w ZR-1 and have no issues, and I don't have to add any between oil changes.

It's labeled different because they are different oils for different purposes. The baseline oil used is the same but the additives in the oil are what changed the properties based on temperature so why wouldn't you label it different if it does different things? You seem to think that just because you live in Florida they should make one label for all their oils, you do realize there's a whole world outside of Florida right? It might be hot in Florida, but I can guarantee it's a hell of a lot harder inside your engine at full operating temperature, so why not create an oil that works best at every possible temperature range instead of just one.
