Why are manufacturers still putting chrome on trucks?

Do you like trucks with chrome?

I guess I fall somewhere in between. I bought this truck with chrome door handles and grill (the bumpers were supposed to be chrome too, but ig the previous owner changed that by painting them badly). I now have a paint match grill, paint matched bumper, and soon to have paint matched door handles.

BUT I had blackout headlights, then flip flopped and decided on chrome OEM-style headlights. I’m also getting chrome wheels. And i kept the chrome grill inserts. I’m not a murdered out truck kinda guy

Im with you OP in terms of the 5th gens, I like color matched trucks and even the matte black accents of the rebels and power wagons more than the chrome trucks, but we all have different tastes lol

Black wheels make a truck look like an Amish buggy.

Generally I think black wheels/trim/etc doesn't look good on already dark paint (dark cherry red, navy blue, etc) and the whole uh "storm trooper" thing is just not as interesting as I think some owners wish it would be.. like the fleet truck comes that way because it's cheap and white is universally appropriate for business equipment but that's economics it's not a look.

i bought same color bumpers and grill on purpose as i really dislike chrome and the way manufacturers tend to go about it with trucks, furthermore the way the front bumper is setup with 2 different parts in the front for the options with the chrome bumper and grill were not in my list to have. Cool thing we have the choice to choose so everybody can be happy about it. Now my bumpers are black :) and i only had to deal with the chrome badges.

I ask myself everyday why they still make the blackout packages, like there aren’t enough murdered-out $100 plastidip toolbags running around.

The customer is always right and here we sit, $45-70k for a half ton passenger hauler with a bed.

I personally like chrome and don't think it looks gaudy at all. My Express had color matched bumpers and came with black door handles and mirrors and grill inserts with painted wheels. I have since lifted it and added chrome wheels, door handles, mirrors and grill inserts. I can't stand the new no chrome look and no emblem look and black wheels on everything. I guess it's just a matter of preference. I'm a little older that some of the other guys so maybe that has something to do with it. I will say I get more compliments with this truck than any other truck I have owned so who knows? 85ed87704970668fb1be709450cef166.jpg

My last truck (Sierra Denali) had tons of chrome. I wanted something different and went with a Night Edition. Next truck may be somewhere in the middle. Different strokes for different folks! I have been married for 30 years so I have to mix it up somehow!

My first Ram, bought a new 1994, had some chrome but I made it all monochrome and did a few mods inside and out. Smooth bumper up front, matched mirrors and rear bumper, even matched rims. Had no emblems or any chrome. My next new Ram in 2003, had chrome everywhere, and it looked good. The next new truck is my current 2018, has a bit less chrome so in the middle of 1 and 2. I guess tastes change, each person's truck reflects their wants at the time.

I personally can’t stand the blacked out look. It’s played out, dull and quite boring. Chrome in the right places looks far better to me. Wheels, bumpers and grill. Not a big fan of a bunch of other chrome accent pieces, as it can get gaudy when overdone, but I can’t think of a single color truck that doesn’t look better with some chrome.

I have chrome bumpers, door handles and badges, that’s enough , didn’t really think about it, got this new $34200 truck for $22000 back in 09 while the Cash for Clunkers program was in effect and couldn’t wait to get the dealership to agree to the deal.

I'm not bashing anyone that likes chrome, everyone has got different tastes and that's all good with me.

In todays market it just seems to me like that vast majority of consumers don't want chrome on their trucks, and if they buy a truck with chrome they end up painting over it...

I personally can't stand chrome on my vehicles, i just think it looks cheap and gaudy. I shopped for my truck for a long time to get the one i wanted without any chrome.

I think Ram understands this better than other makers, so many ram trucks are outfitted with color matched bumpers and black accents/wheels.

Ford gets it too, it seems like more F-150's now have paint matched bumpers now as well.

In my opinion it seems like chevy and toyota have a running contest going to see who can fit more ugly chrome on the front of a truck lol

What are your thoughts? Do you guys still like chrome or no chrome?

You probably don't like the look of the '58 Buick then.
